My 88 burb has a crack in the back of the 700 tranny. Any suggestions on who to take it to? It either needs a new rebuilt tranny or someone to find an uncracked housing and to rebuild this one. |

could you define crack a little better, such as ...is cracked around the rear seal or is it just cracked on the side, it probably can't be welded but you never know, Is fluid gushing out? Can it be driven? can you see the crack? _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

My guy says you can see the crack at the back of it with a mirror. It is that cast iron piece at the back.
It is also making a weird noise in 4x4 when it is under a bind. Sounds like it is coming from near the left front though my mechanic took everything apart and could not find anything wrong in the hub or axle that would be making that noise. |

have Prozac slam a pull-out tranny in it and be on your way. _________________

| Iv got a buddy that will rebuild it for 250-300 + plus parts if you take it to him.. is it a 700 r 4 ? But if the housing is cracked I dunno? Are you sure its not the bell housing? And the 4wd problem is probably somethig in the transfer case I would guess.. I dont think you have a trans issue unless its slipping or not shifting gears. And some jb weld may just fix your crack .. |

Tyler, you and I should meld our 88's together and have one kick-butt driving machine plus some leftover parts. I'll use it in the odd numbered years and you use it in the even number years....or something.

You killed another truck?
I pulled my 700r4 my self and paid 450..bucks with new torque converter here in SA for a rebuild. Talk to FishinRod, he may have one laying around. Or may be able to direct you to a reasonable source.
Since I now have the time off, I will put my BigDaddy Surf Truck up for sale. 81 chevy LWB 4x4. 33's lift. once I get it on the road again.
By the way Tyler, I fixed the Troopers tranny leak for 50.00 bucks. It was the overdrive shift solenoid cover. _________________ Paul S Perez
