An Aransas County man was killed early Sunday morning while trying to enter a home on Portia Lane, south of Rockport.

According to Aransas County Sheriff Bill Mills, Leonard Minns, 29, was pounding on the door of the Portia Lane home. The homeowner answered the door holding a 12-gauge shotgun. After Minns tried to enter the home, the homeowner told him to leave.

According to statements taken by police, when Minns didn't leave, he was shot twice and died at the scene. Mills said an autopsy has been ordered and the case will be referred to the district attorney's office on Monday.

Sad situation......................but I'm confused as to why an autopsy was ordered when it is already known that he died of gunshot wounds?

very sad. Sad Maybe they are going to Check Minns for alcohol or drugs? Maybe he was sick and needing help? I guess they want an explanation on why he was pounding on the door?

I simple tox screen would show whether he had used drugs.

read the comments section on the caller.com website

Quote:
The guy pounding on his door was accusing Travis of sleeping with his wife. My sources say the victim was abusive and that his wife was not cheating. Minns asked the guy over to settle it and its not clear whether he meant by fighting or talking. The people who talked to my source have made police statements- Im just hearsay but my source is an official who I trust.

don't know what so sad about a man defending himself

The evening news had a story about this. They said the two men involved were childhood friends and that they had an on-going argument. The mother-in-law seemed to think that the guy was invited to the house to settle the argument. They said the sheriff's office thought it was a justified shooting but if the guy was invited over things could change. Don't know how they would determine that with one witness gone.

On a side note, about six months ago someone banged on my front door at midnight. It turned out to be CCPD. I had answered the door with a pistol behind my back and when they asked to come in I told them to hold on a minute while I got the dogs. I stuck the pistol in my foosball table and let them in. They searched my house for a woman that was being assaulted. I had already told them my wife was in Houston but they had to check. After not finding anything one of the cops says, "you have an empty holster in that back room that you need to check out, goodnight". I thought that was kinda funny.

Then about three months ago someone bangs on my door about 5am. I hear a woman crying on the other side and open the door. She says she was at my neighbor's house drinking and some guy beat her up and broke her cell phone as she shows the broken cell phone. I called 911 and let the cops handle it.

I guess in both cases it is best that I did not start blasting the door. I think it is about time I put a peep-hole on my frontdoor Smile

Thanks for the links, but the first one mentions recovery of bullets for forensics. First you can't track shotgun loads back to individual guns, and they already know who shot him. The second link only gives a definition for autopsy. Unless, they're looking for a tumor in his brain that made him act that way on that particular day I still don't see the point in performing the autopsy.

That I man was killed and another man felt he was forced to kill him is "what's so sad".

May have posted this story before, but several years ago I was awaken by someone pounding on my front door and yelling at about 3:00 am. By the time I found my 12 guage he was gone. I saw him across the street banging on my neighbors door. With my door open, I could understand him finally. He was yelling Ayudame (help in Spanish) over and over. Well, he was having no luck in getting anyone to open their door to him at 3:00 am. A couple of minutes later the police showed up. As I walked out on the sidewalk, I saw the guy sitting on a curb with cops on either side of him. Shortly, Airlife Chopper landed at the corner. Boy, they can land in tight spaces. When I walked out the next morning there was blood on the side of my truck in the driveway, blood spots all down the driveway and sidewalk and blood all over my front door. I could watch trails of blood going down the sidewalk and across the street. What a mess. Later in the day I found out the story. The guy was an illegal who was riding the rails. He fell as he was getting on or off a train and it cut his arm off. He just headed to the nearest street lights to try and find help and ended up in my neighborhood. He died in the hospital that day. Other than just a wild story, I guess this has a couple of morals. First, I probably would have been justified in nailing him with my 12 guage as he was kicking the door so hard he broke the storm door. Luckily I didn't. I would have had to live with that for lots of years. Secondly, I still had to justify not helping this guy in my own mind (as did my neighbors). Although I felt a lot of guilt for quite a while, I would probably handle a similar occurance the same way. Just can't see justifying potentially harming myself and my wife under those circumstances. Probably not too many rational people would open their door when someone is screaming in a language they don't understand and apparently trying to kick down that door.

Just a few months back somone tried to kick our front door open in the middle of the night. Me yelling and the dog barking dettered that guy, but I picked up a Glock 40 cal, because I will do whatever it takes to protect my family, and realized if the other guy has a gun, and I don't my wife and daughter are in jeopardy.
