I am headed to PINS Thursday - Sunday and wanted to know driving & weed conditions to the 15MM. I also have rented a Yak Board Kayak - how well does this handle in the surf?

i went to the 15 yesterday. driving was ok, you'll be fine if you have a 4x4, you might have some trouble in a 2wd.

small bait was no where to be found, larger whiting where everywhere. sharks where there too. caught one, had another rod get drilled, and saw two in the second gut.

i've never used a yak board. i hear they're slow but very stable.

Thanks for the update. I have 4wd but will be pulling a popup camper so I usually don't go to big shell were the driving gets bad. I got this yak because I have limited experience with one but have fished PINS for the past 20yrs. I was there 2 weeks ago & caught 7 keeper trout, 20" mack, & 4'blacktip, also had 4 steel leaders completely torn up.

I'm also headin to the PINS Thursday to Sunday. We unfortunately don't have a 4X4 this trip so we'll be up North. This is our first time out. How far South can you go before it's 4wheel drive only? We plan on camping on the beach, any recommendations? Good luck this weekend!

I made a quick trip yesterday at the 4wd sign, I had planned to fish untill dark but left because the weed was too bad, the driving wasnt too great, I saw a guy in a 2wd silverado set stuck right before the 4wd sign then get pulled out by a dodge.

How far down you go depends on driving ability and how low the tide is.

Also, the road will look very different on sunday when you leave. There will be tons of large 4X4 pickups that will really rut it up on Saturday and Sunday.

Often times getting down the beach on a weekday is very different than the weekends with all of the increased traffic.

Any recomendations...........yes.........bring plenty of bug juice. The mosquitos are bad once the sun goes down.

Cheers

No problem, they were nasty as the sun went down and the wind died off.

Cheers,
