glad i posted. learned alot of helpful info..
guess some of the info struck some nerves. brought up alot of things for us to consider being on the water.. and alot of things we do not think about and get us into major trouble..
so if this helps keep a few people safer it is well worth the heat it has brought up.. _________________ Fish and Hunt Baby.... so tight lines and clear scopes. |

flyfisher.. thanks for posting the link..
I love learning new things when it comes to fishing..
Being out in the water has its risks and we sometimes forget to practice what we know what we should do..
So I think this has been a great post. especially since I seldomly kayak.
I remember maybe 10 years ago a storm popped up from no where and wind was blowing 30-40mph and was not letting up. we rescued a kayaker because he got exhausted trying to head back.. and was later told that a few boaters had problems but about 10 kayakers had to get rescued all around the port a area. and this was the summer time.
so I do not need something hitting me up in the winter time.. _________________ Fish and Hunt Baby.... so tight lines and clear scopes. |

I think you were thinking about a kayak tournament 6-8 years ago. I was in it and there were about 50-60 others as well. A front was due but not until late that night or the next morning, so they decided to have the tournament. Of course the unexpected happened and with winds up to 50 mph, it blew kayakers all over Aransas Bay and B and R Flats. The Coast Guard was called in to help plus an unknown number of power boats came to the rescue. Fortunately where I was fishing, it blew me toward where I put in.

I went out the other day on the lake in about 40 degree weather. Had an insulated pair of waders on and stayed warm and dry. A little windy so there was a lot of spray coming over the side. Waders worked great - no reason kayaks have to be seasonal.
