There is always going to be someone or a group that leaves their camp in that condition. I don't think I have been down PINS and not seen that. I am more curious if anyone got pics of the weigh-in. _________________

that is the exact same spot of the beach where i was fishing from tuesday to friday morning last week, the exact spot!!!
in the pics- the 2 posts they have their shanty tied to, i planted for a tarp on the beach. i can positively assuse you that as of friday morning at 10:30 am when we left we did NOT leave it in that condition. as for the chairs in the pic, they were there from before we got there. all the rest is new crap including the tarps and such....none of that was there when we were there fishing. i believe that during sharkathon, Q was camped close to that spot and can verify the condition prior to surfcats. what a shame, when is capt. billy's cleanup this year? |

Thanks for the info, Mr. Golla. that species is indeed an unwelcome invasive in these parts, and you sir have certainly spent enough time down south to be able to accurately track their movements.
finger-pointing and tournament vs. tournament bashing aside, this type of behavior from these type of park users needs to be curbed. There is enough trash down there the way it is, and the blatant abuse of this privilege (NOT right, because it can be revoked by the park) shows a huge disrespect for the beauty and wonder of the Padre Island National Seashore.
ANYONE who defends this type of behavior must be guilty themselves. it is reprehensible, and currently boiling my blood that anyone would attempt to rationalize or defend this type of behavior. STOP IT!!! ITS WRONG!!! and if you don't know better, PLEASE get off my planet.
that's enough. encourage people to do the right thing down south, please. and clean your campsite, EVERY TIME.
Thank you Mr. Golla for posting this. _________________

Its crap, but regardless of when the mess was made, you can't just say it was surfcats people...anyone had a right to be down there this weekend--whoever made that mess should be banned.... |

um, looks like that's what was insinuated, surfcats participants, and I trust the original poster. Years of evidence. _________________

nothing new. typical trashy human behaviour. we have a nice creek that has a low water crossing at our place here. always littered with beer cartons, cans, styro cups, plastic/glass bottles, diapers and even old clothes. dirt-bag people with no respect for others property. the creek is private property and we pay taxes on the land even under the water. we dont mind other folks enjoying the creek, but the crap they leave is pitiful. they show up with armloads of stuff and walk away with nothing, get in their cars and drive away. break down the fences and leave the place looking like a dump. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

I have seen posts of camps that the Surf cats have supposedly left on the Thursday before the tournament. I watch locals stuff beer cans in the rocks on the Jetty, Run gill nets in the bay and break every fishing regulation known to TPWL
Those are Americans or resident aliens not Surf cats messing up our environment.
When was the last time you went to Billy's beach clean up??????
I was just at the North Jetty and you would have to have and army with the heart of Billy to clean it up.
There is a major crisis down at Big Shell right now with all the Hurricane debris, so don't sit in front of your PC and piss and moan do something about it and it starts at Billy's clean up.
Hoggeman |
First, Billy's cleanup is not until next year. The one coming up is not associated w/ Billy in any way.
Second, a large number of people that frequent this site are volunteers for Billy's cleanup, year after year. When was the last time you were there?
And finally, we're not saying that everyone associated w/ SurfCats trashes the beach. Only that the beach is always in worse condition following the tournament. Why would PINS no longer allow the tournament if it was not negatively affecting the seashore? Why are other tournaments still allowed to be held there?
While I agree that beach cleanups are good, I think that "major crisis" may be a stretch. There is a lot of debris out there and it is great that there will be a cleanup at PINS, but you're talking about a crisis at Big Shell and the approaching cleanup will, in all likelihood, not make it even close to Big Shell. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |
