For what it is worth:
I had an American Angler for well over ten years that I purchased in the 90's. It finally died on me, and I have been on the search for a duplicate.
I have tried several brands and types to no avail. My primary problem was separating the fish from the skin. The knives I tried just bit or torn into the skin too bad and created problems. I went back to the old school of a manual, fillet knife.
Someone then told me that the Black and Decker knife was the best he had used, and he has tried them all. Well, for less than $10.00 I thought I would give it a try.
I am here to say that he was right on. I am now back in the days of my OLD American Angler and for less than $10.00.
If interested, I got mine at Walmart. They are not in the fishing section. Mine was near the silverware and blenders. I had to ask to find it as I am not much of a shopper. It was on the very top shelf in a very thin, whitish box. |

My wife cleans all of our fish, I tried to buy her another knife about a month ago and she made me take it back and buy her a new sharpener. She does ok with it, hates cleaning reds though. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

A bit pricey but i have 2 cutco filet knives. They work very good. Can extend from a 7 in to a 9 in blade. Paid regular price for one and got the other at a pawn shop for 7$. they didnt know the cost new!! Sweet! Havent tried the black and decker but, rapala's knife and cant think of the other one are extremely sharp out of the box. I got stabbed in the buttox (cheek) by one! It was on the side pocket of the truck with out a sleeve and when i opened the door it went from sideways to pointing straight. When i backed up to let my friend in the back seat, it bit me about 2 or 3 inches in the butt. I had to go get stitches, Dr asked if i tried to commit suicide! I swear they must have called all the nurses on the floor to come check it out. My rear end was the only thing showing!!!!!!!! |

Now there's a good deal if I ever heard of one! MY wife at least brought ME a couple back from Alaska - close, but not quite the same deal. |

You better take good care of her. They broke that mold a long time ago.
