Well i went down to South Padre to move some of my things. Was suppose to go Marlin fishing but we canceled due to problems with the boat. So yesterday decided to wake up early and hit the beach, looking for any sign of life. Drove all the way to the Mansfield Jetties with no real signs. I worked my way back hitting a couple deeps holes and caught a 8" Red and a 12" Whitting. I headed back south again and stopped at a spot i previously marked on my GPS. When i stopped i noticed something big thrashing around about 400 yards out. So i stayed watching and started seeing Silver Flashes. TARPON. Pull the yak down grabbed my TLD 25 i had in the truck with a big circle and my calcutta 700. Paddled out and had Tarpon rolling all around me. Saw a few Flying Smacks, a 6'-8' Bull Shark smashing something several times and a Spinner going crazy jumping and spinning about 5 times in a row.
Started trolling into the school of Tarpon with some bait fish i had caught, not sure what they are called. Jumped about 5 before before i found a circle hook big enough to hook em. Landed and released a 3.5'er from the yak, then hooked the +/- 5.5'er in the picture. I leadered the big one out in the yak but really wanted a picture, so i loosened the drag a little and paddled in to get a pic.
These were the first Tarpon i have ever caught. It was incredable. Could have stayed and caught more but was beat and burnt. So i headed home.
Here is the pic of the 5'er.

Man, I like the way the water looks there. Who needs Florida?
