plan your trip on a low tide.. Bring plenty of water , sunscreen , bug spray , beer, food that you dont mind eating sandy, water, and beer of course.. Dont forget your tackle either. Make sure the spare tire is in good shape as well. Bring your camera to take pics. Blocks of Ice last much longer. Bring something for shade during the day..

look for bait working in the guts or birds working over bait.

If you know the basics as you said, stick to them. If a spot looks good, wet a line, and bring what Robul said.

May want to keep an eye on the cold upwelling that is occurring down there right now. I'll be down there this weekend to see if it is still bad.

Be extremely careful at the Mansfield jetties when camping their are lots of wetbacks down there now-take a personal security system in a magnum caliber. There are also lots of dune coons-seriously the dune coons as we call em are a herd of very tame, not scared of you racoons that will eat all your food, open your coolers, and make a mess of your camp-they live in the jetty rocks and come out at night. I woke up with one on my chest on my cot one morning! Little SOBs about drove us crazy on a trip a few years ago!

Also be on the lookout for terrorists in submarines coming in. Shoot em.
