|
|
July 1st and 3rd – Fishing is always better on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We hit the Padre Island flats again and the day started off well with
this 27-1/2” redfish with several undersize ones as well.
We later found my son battling something sinister. We were sure it was an oversize redfish stripping his line, but after a fight that lasted
about 10 minutes he brought in this hideous 28” black drum. The fish tested his angling skills as he demonstrated mastery of the light
spinning tackle with 10lb line.
My youngest son shows off the redfish and a trout we also picked-up.
There was plenty to go around at the fish fry.
On Thursday, we returned but my youngest son decided to sit this one out, so his brother invited a friend. We ended up with a nice stringer
of 9 trout. The guys were in it for the numbers, but…
I was looking for “the one”, and found one good enough with this 25” trout.
The final word on how the trip went. |

Gator - my kids are 12 and 14. The oldest can hold his own just fine, the other is trying. Bring a tow rope. When the wind kicks up I'll give them a tow back and ask them to help paddle along. However, whenever I look back I just see them taking a siesta most of the time.
Take them out to a spot with knee-deep water and let them get used to it first. They'll be fine - but don't forget the tow rope anyway. |
