OK first I want to thank you guys for your help. When we were down from Dallas in April Dave and Nancy and the guys on the pier were all very cool. Well, I coming back and I have some questions.

First..I was planning on coming around June 10 because there are several days of double tides. Is this good, bad or does it matter. I'm a chemo patient so I have to plan ahead.
AND..Even though it may be a bit early for Kings I was going to try a slide line for the first time (look out) with live bait. I totally suck with a casting net so I will have to buy live bait. What should I get and where do I get it.

I'm sure I'll think of more as time goes by..Look forward to your imput
Thanks again......doc

Here is some of the damage back in April at BHP...

Tide affects inshore bays/flats more than in the Gulf so I wouldnt be so concerned with that but I would look at the full moon phase. As far as live bait go with finger mullet & get them anywhere on your way to BHP along the JFK causeway or the Bait-Bucket in the Bluff.
Good luck & post up your report! Wink

If you can't throw a cast net then buy yourself some Sabiki rigs(Academy or Wally world)#12 or 10 size hooks, and catch all the live shad, perch, or blue runners you want right at the pier for free. If you're slidelining, you need live bait for kings, tarpon, trout or reds. I'd pick up a bunch of Mannolures, 1 oz silver, if the Sp. mackeral are hitting, before you get here(Dallas or SA) because that time of yr they will probably be all sold out at Academy here. That is the best lure on BHP for everything if you like to lure fish. Just pray for greenish water while you're here and you will catch fish.

FB PHIL...
Thanks. You know the last time I was there I used a Sabiki and all I caught were pin fish and I was told they are no good for bait. Is there a trick to catching the shad and others that I obviously don't know?

Pin fish are great bait for the gulf. The bigger the better! I use them for snapper, amberjack, kingfish and grouper with very good results. They stay alive better than most bait fish also.

Thanks for the pinfish tip. I threw a bunch of them away at the pier but I think the advice I was getting was from the shark hunters. AND your right, they stay alive forever....Thanks...doc

Sorry but I'm not up to speed on the poison gland joke. I have found that most of the advice I get on the pier (at least from the vets) is pretty good.
When I had my first good fish on and I hear some guy thirty yards down the pier yell out "hey, do me a favor and set that hook one more time will ya" I knew I was in good company.....Thanks again.......doc

Thanks Dave, I'm going to have to take my chances with the weather. Unless I see a hurricane coming I'm showin up. As far as Chemo goes, I'm a stage four for the second time. I beat it once and I totally intend on beating it again. There is hardly anyone I meet that hasn't had a family member or friend go through this. The C word is no longer a death sentence. I do have to jump through a few more hoops to go on fishing trips but it is so worth it....I look forward to seeing you again........doc

Everything that I've seen in the way of moon tables and solunar tables [etc] says that the best fishing is 3-4 days on either side of the full and new moon, not right on it. Just what I've read.

It would be interesting [to say the least] if Captain Mike would chime in on this!
