I know this topic was discussed thoroughly last week and I am about as layed back, selfless, know it's everyones water... BUT I am ready to be as proactive as necessary to resolve the Burning issue which is not going away w/out everyones efforts.
I was going to enter the backside of east flats/ cayote hole from the Island Moorings Channels. As I was about to enter, there were seperate kayak fisherman, one pair of waders and one poling flats skiff fishing the approximate 1/2 mile by 3/4mile flat. All respecting each others space and obviously having fun. Coming from the south was a white aluminum tower boat w/ to men on their respective towers (bow and center console tower) not only circling the entire flat but the traversing the entire flat seemingly making sure they got w/in 100 ' of everyone fishing.
I immediately pass, went out piper and south to the outside of east flats for a wade north and south of Flato. I was 10 minutes into my wade and I see the same boat not only burning the back lakes coming out of cayote but burning the entire east flats complex where there were around 10 boats anchored, wading and drifting all respectfully of each other.
As they came south toward flato they re-entered the back lakes and hit every possible navigable lake and cut to the outside available. I was 100 yards south of flato and as they entered flato they did the 100' pass by the 4 anchored boats in flato then headed south in the back lakes circling and traversing. Later that evening, I ran into some kayak buds that were kayaking just North of Wilsons Cut and they continued the above story.
I have rambled too long, but not counting when these "fisherman" headed south of me towards the boat launch at Wilsons, these guys effected 19 different groups of respectful fisherman in a beautiful fishery and never put a line in the water.
I know whining does not solve anything and this will not be the last post on this matter but we know it will not get better w/out some collective efforts by all.
I had the good fortune or misfortune that these "fisherman" did not get close enough to me for their TX #'s or a photo. If I see them again, I will confront them. One of the problems to discuss is the fact that other than being disrespectful and not at all a steward or sportsman, I don't think they were actually breaking in laws.
Sorry for the babble. |

I hear ya, you cant fish anywhere on weekeends anymore (esp in a Yak) without some selfish idiot doing crap like that. Heck in the summer its even bad during weekdays!
I guess other than confrontation one can only report TX #s, but will the TPW or CG do anything to them without acual proof?
We need more wardens on the water, been awhile since Ive seen anyone get ticketed. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

I hate it with a passion when we drift Emmerald's hole or KRS and someone drives within 200 ft of our drift!! i guess it's impossible to use the channel so to not disrupt anyone else's drift....hmmmmm |

Those guys with towers spend most of their time searching for and spooking schools of redfish. I catch more fish than they do and i've never had a tower nor have i needed one. I had a friend once who had a tower he did the same thing , just drove around looking for fish, pretty boring if you ask me, the view was great but whenever we saw a fish it was already going the other way, why is that,? Well i'll tell ya, because when you are up there on that tower if you can see the fish ...they can see you, unless you absolutly catch them by surprize then you might catch a few. You will catch more being low profile and stealthy. Towers are cool and make your boat look neat and all that stuff but if you are a good fisherman you will never need one. All those guys were doing was messing up everybody else's good time and wasting gas. My opinion only IMS _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| Those guys never fish. It is a FISHING tournament. Ban big towers and level the playing field. I will be taking pictures of all the muddy prop tails coming from these boats for now one. Does anyone no if any one with a big tower has actually even won one of these things. |

| There's not any tournaments in this area until July and August. The burn boats seen this past weekend were locals. As far as tower boats winning an event, Ruepke & Mendeleski won one in 04 and the Culpeppers won one in 06. |

| BEST THING TO DO IS TO TAKE A PICTURE OR ID THEM AND POST THE INFOR ON THESE FISHING FORUMS. IF THEY DON'T CORRECT THEIR BAD BEHAVIOR SOONER OR LATER ONE OF THOSE 14 FISHERMEN IS GOING TO EVEN UP. I WAS DOWN AT THE CABIN IN BAFFIN ABOUT A MONTH AGO. I GUY WITH A SHINING PENNY COLORED SPEED BOAT PROBABLY A SPRING BREAKER WAS RUNNING 50 TO 60 MPH NEXT TO THE WADERS AND BOATS. IT WAS NOT BURNING BUT MORE OF I DON'T KNOW THE AREA. THE FISHERMEN WERE YELLING AND CUSSING AND THEN THE DUDE PULLED UP TO A CABIN AND HUNG OUT WITH SOME FRIENDS. I WOULD NOT WANT THAT GUY PARKING NEXT TO MY CABIN. |

John and Chris Culpepper have won several using this method. I'm certainly no advocate for this type of fishing, but it works in the late Summer/Early Fall when the big "herds" start forming. |

I'm sure there are some "good" guys with large towers, but anyone that burns up close to people are self-centered egotistical jerks that should be keel-hauled

This happened last year prior to the Redfish Cup in AP. One of the yakkers took photos of Team American Rodsmiths burning in Lighthouse Lakes. They posted on TKF website and folks lit it up. They hammered on AR. It didn't make it thru the day before AR responded and said they would take care of it. They now instruct their tourney anglers that they will lose sponsorship if they are caught burning in an AR labeled boat. Now, that isn't going to stop the problem, but the point is this......
When those tourneys come to town and they start burning the shorelines, TAKE PICTURES AND POST THEM!!!! The sponsors do NOT want their good name hammered for such a negative practice. I realize not all burners are tourney boys, but if you make the tourney boys and their sponsors look bad, the word will get around and some will stop doing it. |
