I just wanted to thank everyone for their input on where to take my kids this past weekend. It was their first time to the coast and they had a very good time.
We pulled in Friday afternoon and made Bob Hall Pier our first stop. The kids liked it, but there were a lot of surfers and lots of weeds. Our next stop was the Packery Channel jetties around 4:30. As soon as we got baited up we were getting hits. The kids were in heaven pulling out little croakers and trout and of course....hardheads. By the time that we left the channel at 10pm we had caught about 8 fish (no keepers). My youngest son was a little disappointed since he hadn't caught anything. Of course older brother and sister were teasing him all day.
Saturday we hit Red Dot Pier for about 30 minutes. The kids were kind of bored and wanted some more of the Packery Channel, so back we went. On my youngest sons first cast of the day at the Packery he caught a 16 inch trout. This, needless to say has made him the expert angler and he already wants to go back. I caught a nice take home flounder about five minutes later. When the kids saw the flounder, I got out voted on going back home that day so we stayed another night.
Looking at the kids exhausted and asleep in the truck on the way back made it all worth while. I'll never forget the looks on their faces when they caught their first fish. Hell, my daughter was even baiting her own hooks by the time we left.
So...many thanks to everyone who offered advice on where to take them to fish and have a good time. We could'nt hit every spot, but we will next time. They had a very good time and will be talking about this trip for a while. The look on their faces made a lasting memory for this dad.

Thanks again,

that is our sneaky way of getting to go fishing. get the kids involved and then it's not us going it's us taking the kids. enjoy the precious time with your kids.

you got 'em now....

Our kids, now 14 (jessica) and 17 (nick), have fished since they were 6 and 10. 2 Years ago, Nick went offshore to the near rig at PINS and double hooked red snapper, in a canoe mind you, that he still talks of to his friends. Jessica still goes with us to PINS and loves that almost no matter what, you can catch whiting (God's gift to fisherman...)in the first or second gut, keeping the big guys or using for bait.

Hope to be down there in May, doing it again.

That is what it is all about whether it is your children (extra special) or someone fishing for the first time.
