Check Engine light came on in my Subaru this morning so i figured i should take it in to have it checked. But I really don't know where to take it. I've never had any work done down here and was wondering if anyone could suggest someone. Thanks!

If you are in Annaville and your car is newer than around 1994 or so, I have a code reader, pm me and I can read it for you gratis. I can also read the stored codes and freeze data, and print them out.. I would take it to any autoparts store where you can get the codes read for free.....No need to pay someone $40 to hook up a computer for one minute to read the codes. Also, try tightening your gas tank cap, sometimes that can turn the light on...

Lot of times if you havea bank sesor out itll make the light come on. If theres an autozone near by the do ck engine lights for free. (will tell you whats wrong exactly)

went to fast kat in the bluff, and he did quick work and the price seemed decent,

no bull crap either just fixed what was broken and did not try to get me on twenty other things

The first thing you need to do is find out which sensor is turning on the light. Do this before taking it to a shop. Unless the shop will read your codes for free.

not to say that Fast Kat is terrible but a friend had his v6 camaro there and they weren't sure what to with it, turned out that it needed head gaskets or something but I went up there with him and they just asked me how to fix it. Since then I have been leery of them. Best bet is to get it scanned and see what is wrong. How many miles are on it? Only reason I ask that is that it is a timing belt car and you don't want to take the gamble and ride it out for a long time after the prescribed interval to change that because it can cost a lot more in the long run if the timing belt breaks because it can damage the valves. Also when doing the timing belt, spend the little extra money and do the water pump as they require the same parts to be removed to do each. I would say that if you are at 100k miles or more to start planning on it at least. Just get it scanned and let us know, I may be able to tell you what to do and you can do it yourself. If it is a bank sensor (o2 sensor) they are a little more expensive for that model but easy to change, you will either have to get the exact replacement or you will have to do a little wiring to connect a universal one to it. Once again, I would take it to Autozone or where ever and have them scan it for free and go from there.

Took it to AutoZone today. Apparently there's a bad O2 sensor. Talked with Jay and he said he could get it taken care of on Friday. Thanks for all the help!

I had a good experience with Fast Kat in the Bluff. Took my Avalanch there for alternator problem. They were fast and reasonable in their charge.
