Thought I might give some of you a heads up. There are one heck of a bunch of sand trout in the ULM from Pita Island to the Humble Bridge.
Nice Ones!!!!! Been catching them on live shrimp and aritficials mostly around the channels.....I know they aren't as prestigious as specks, but they eat pretty good it you keep them on ice and right now if you just want to catch fish.......here ya go..
Now if the weather would just get right...dang cold fronts..

I agree Mike, the unstable weather patterns this time of year make it hard to pattern fish. Long periods of cold nasty weather makes for better Winter fishing. It's been more like Spring around here lately. Weak fronts do nothing but turn the wind and water around. When you think it's a great day to fish, the sun, blue bird skies and high pressure just screw everything up. Hey, at least the strong North winds were most likely responsible for pushing those nice sand trout into the ULM. I have had some off the chart days in the Northern ULM after fronts that produce strong North winds. Don't worry in S. Texas if you don't like the weather, just wait a couple of hours.

Man! I love sandtrout. Took my father-in-law fishing this fall on the Humble and he took 124 frozen sandtrout fillets back home to Indiana with him (thats 'caus we thew the little ones back). All of his friends like it when he comes to visit us. Try putting some olive oil, salt and pepper, and some Italian bread crumbs (no egg wash) and put them in a hot skillet with just some PAM. Healthy and DELICIOUS Very Happy !

Ain't nothin wrong with sandtrout in the cooler or in the pan. Funny thing is that I haven't caught a sandtrout in years. Guess I haven't been fishing the right places.

We've caught tons of sand and silver trout in the packery from October to December. They certainly are great eating, and I still have many, many pounds of frozen fillets in the deep freeze to last until the next big run Smile
