After successive 15 hour work days headed offshore saturday from Packery on an unplanned and un prepared for trip. Only been here for three months so not a lot of experience where the good spots are. At the close rigs and caught three decent trigger and many undersize red snapper and pigfish. Some fellows in a small whaler said there were some good rigs about 20 miles farther east, so off we went. All we had for bait was about 2 pounds of squid and four pigfish in the livewell. Long ride out there straight into the waves which were mostly 2-3 with the occasional 4-5. Cleaned up on triggerfish left them biting (no more squid) with 16 in the box biggest about 5 pounds. I would have killed for more pigfish or a livewell full of pinfish. The four pigfish resulted in one 5 lb dog snapper, two breakoffs, and cut fingers as I stupidly had my fingers resting on 50 pound braid when the drag started screaming off (lost the fish too). Maybe a dozen big red snapper, buddy caught one at least ten pounds which broke my heart to toss back. Ended the day with 16 trigger and the dog snapper, left them biting next time will prepare better. Sorry no photos I don't have an online picture hosting site. _________________ CHUCK

| We went out of Port A about 20 miles NE of the jetties and about 5 miles off the beach and caught sand trout 2 at a time with squid fishing on the bottom. It was a beautiful day until my port engine died 20 miles from the jetties! |

| Glad to hear you tore em up! Would've love to go out fishing. Instead I just had a bad flight... Oh well. Any idea when/if they're sending you out west? The weather and flying here are awesome, even if living in La Quinta sucks! Can't wait to get back and go fishing! |

we were almost 30 miles so no keepers on the reds.
I caved and put pics online, but can't figure out how to get it from webshots to the forum here.

That looks like some great eating! Trigger fish are delicious! I hope you vented the snapper upon release. That helps them get back down and increases survival rates.
