Josh, my dad Paul, and myself all decided to fish the tournament this weekend and see if we could get our entry fees back. The plan was for Josh and I to fish the morning and then go get my dad around noon and finish off the day.
Josh and I had our lines in the water by 6AM and we were greeted by hungry redfish and some really nice trout.
Josh and one of nine trout, this one the smallest at 19".

Just as the action was getting hectic, this bird decides to get hooked and cause some trouble. Even though we got off on the wrong foot, or hand for that matter, this little guy was eventually set free. FYI, these little bastages can inflict quite the bite power. Anyone have an ID on this guy?

After a while Josh and I were getting frustrated(not really) with releasing countless 25" reds and we headed in to get my dad. We went right back out to the same spot and the reds and trout were still there.
My dad was soon in the thick of the action, landing this nice 26" red on his early father's day present.

Josh finally broke the 25" streak with this fat girl red, just a hair over 28" and 10+ pounds. Had she shrunk in the cooler just a little more, Josh would have a cool $2500 in his wallet.

We came up just a few ounces short of the money in the trout division, but this trip was one of the best that I can remember. We hit it up again this morning, dodging thunderstorms, and got another three reds and two 25"+ trout. Wouldn't you know it, the first red we caught was 27" and 8.6 pounds. Thats the red we needed yesterday.
Here's a pic of Josh and the old man with the day one haul. 8 reds, 9 trout, and 3 drum. Countless reds released.

Needless to say, Josh went back to Austin with a cooler full of fish and a good weeks worth of painful sunburn. What a great weekend.
