Has anybody ever heard of farmed bait fish called "Salty Dog's?" Somebody told me you can order them online. Is this true?

Black Salty's is indeed the name, never fished with them before 1. because of the price and 2. Because of how long they last in the water. Someone from a local bait shop told me they were cloned from a goldfish. They are actually a freshwater fish but can stay alive in saltwater for around 30 to 45 mintues. The problem being is if ur fishing the coastal area having freshwater available. Its not my preference to pay $$ for something i know will be dead in about 30 minutes if fishing in saltwater. I know clems had them on a few occasions but i have also seen them at other area baitshops as well. If someone has had any luck using them im curious to hear how well they did.

Yep, I tried them last year on the jetty when I couldn't find any live shrimp, and I never got a bite... As I remember, I ended up feeding most of them to a Blue Heron... Rolling Eyes

I agree with Bluffer, I have had very good luck using piggies or pin perch. They do indeed stay alive for along time without much needed attention. That or mullet are very effective baits to use however mullet tend to need more attention than perch as they tend to die easier if they dont have enough oxygen. The best part about them is they are free if u know how to use a cast net. Hey TITELINE, im curious as to how long they stayed alive in the water when u used them??
