Can't really comment on the that model specifically, but Savages are an excellent gun. I have used many rifles over the years and now prefer savages. I didn't think I would like them at first but a friend of mine showed me his collection of savages and that got me hooked. I bought a Savage 110 in .30-06 syn stock from a gun show with a simmons scope on it. After a trigger adjustment, done at home, I took it hunting. Shot three deer that weekend, an axis doe, a 9 point W/T and an axis buck, all one shot on each.

This summer I wanted to build a custom rifle and with savage this is the easiest rifle to work with because all the work can be done at home. I now have a .338-06 with a boyd's thumhole laminant stock and nikon 6-18x40 BDC scope. I am shooting 210 gr nosler partions, but will be switching to 180 gr since 210s are to much for TX, at 2500 fps out past 400 yards sub MOA. You can't go wrong with savage for the money.

No matter what you buy just make sure you are comfortable with it and shoot it often to get use to it. Also make sure to properly break the barrel in and you will enjoy years of shooting.

i like my ruger mk77 mk11 30.06 all weather with a leupould 6x scope, it will kill anything on the north american continent. for smaller stuff my ruger mini 14 223 does the trick. My first rifle was a stevens model 15a 22 bolt action single shot.

Shooting cicadas out of the big cottonwoods out back with a pellet gun is exactly how I learned to shoot only it was the early 60’s.

i own 2 remington 700's, 30-06 and 270, have a ruger mini14 rancher and a couple 17 hmr's. the remingtons are superb and will last forever. both remingtons have leupold scopes and have dropped many hogs and deer. remington was battle tested in vietnam and still a best seller......i wouldn't trade my 700's for nothing- well maybe a kleingunther. now thats a sweet shooting stick, but chingos dollars. my 270 is my preferred go to gun when going hunting. go with the remington 700- you won't regret it.

I love Remingtons, all of my hunting rifles are Remingtons or Rugers. But stay away from the model 710. Remington does not make that gun as of this next model year. It was replaced by the model 770, about the same price but much better quality. Also stay away from the Mossberg, my friend got one for his wife in .243, it is a real POS rifle. I am not a fan of Savage but I have heard good things about the new ones. In my mind your best bet would be a Remington Model 700, one of the most accurate/consistant rifles out of the box and a great value. The Model 700 has been around since 1962 and the action (carry over from the Model 721/722) has been around since 1948. Can you say time proven. It is also the strongest bolt action ever built (even stronger than the old Mauser's). A .270 Win. is a good choice fo a "one rifle hunter", it will handle most all game in the lower 48 and most of Alaska, but is also not overkill for most game in the lower 48.

Tyler would go for a 30 /06 you can hunt coyates to elk ,bullets to 220 g would use a 165 g for deer in a grand slam Its a great all around rifle. just a thought
