as long as we are still going after it for the next 25-30 years..... that way I can retire a happy man!

Personally...I like looking at the rigs offshore, not to mention there about the best spot to fish out there.

I don't know what experts you are hearing from but current known reserves, which are only going up, show more than a 500 year reserve capacity. The Earth is full of it. There is three times the oil, according to the Rand Report, in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming than in Saudia Arabia. Anwar projects to what we get from Velenzuala every year. Lets not forget that we could be keeping that $70 a barrel in this country, rather than to some radical country or tin horn dicatator.

And every year after a storm knocks them all down or breaks the fans off how much tax dollars is it going to take to replace them?? I can see them washed up on PINS now.

Mudflap,

Where are you getting your info? here's info from the department of energy.

Because non-OPEC countries' smaller reserves are being depleted more rapidly than OPEC reserves, their overall reserves-to-production ratio -- an indicator of how long proven reserves would last at current production rates -- is much lower (about 26 years for non-OPEC and 83 years for OPEC, based on 2004 crude oil production rates). This implies increased OPEC production as a proportion of world production over the long term.

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/nonopec.html

Also OPEC has more than 60% of those reserves.

I think he might be talking about oil shales. The problem with those is extraction cost("Where's Flak" when you need him ) and of course tearing up the country in the beautiful west to get at them. I imagine something like an open pit mine.

My main point here is less dependance on fuels that cause pollution.

Big John,
You're VERY wrong about "almost every expert out there". If they're saying that, they are NOT oil finding scientist/geologist who are finding the oil. There's boocoo's of it, already found, just waiting to be tapped.

BUT, the "Sky is falling" crowd has been saying that since 1929, with weekly newspaper headlines since. President Carter faced the nation one night back in 73' and told us we'd be out of oil w/in 10 years! Our gas prices jumped from .27/gal to .50+/gal that week. Anyway, we've since learned (easily verifiable by you via Google searches) that the better our technology gets, the more oil we're finding. In fact, geologist say that the earth contains an almost unlimited supply of hydrocarbons for our energy needs. ie- Canada alone has ONE oil sand field that will fuel the WORLD for over 100yrs at the rate we're using it now. I forgot how many 10's of TRILLIONS of barrels it holds, but it's several times bigger than all world reserves now tapped. Then, there's that much more we know of off our shores of our country alone.

Anyway, there's plenty of oil. But, like you say, do we need to be burning it all. I agree, no. Bring on the wind power. But watch out, the Sierra Club is demanding that the PINS wind farm install a Radar activated Switchoff system to shut the 500 windturbines down when the birds fly toward it! Idiots. -Zano

All you wanted to know about Cnada's oil supply and more!

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/canada.html

"a reported 178.8 billion barrels of proven oil reserves in 2005, second only to Saudi Arabia"

Read the link I gave earlier in this thread. Proven oil reserves. That's everything that we know exists and can be produced. Proven oil reserves gone from non_OPEC countries, including Canada's oil sands, in less than 30 years. OPEC has less than 90 years of supply left.

I know many, mnay geologists. There is more oil to be found, but the large store have already been found. We know where the oil is.

Go nuclear....wind is fine but the atom is were it's at. Those wind catchers will make great structure to fish from though.
