| The best bait in my opinion is not a legal bait because it is a small trout. Trout will eat there own. Fishing on the pier one night and was reeling in a small 16 inch trout when it got swallowed by atrout that was over 30 inches. Nothing but the tail was sticking out of its mouth. It ended up getting off and I still had the original trout hooked. So I measured it and it was 16 inches long. Luckily my and dad and one friend were there becuase there was no way that they were going to believe me. Other than that I think a Super Spook is the best. |

I failed to mention that my favorite color of the Super Spook is the Speckled Trout. |

Old timers used to fish with juvi Trout back before there were rules and regs. No doubt they will work, just glad someone had the foresight to begin conservation efforts so there are still fish for us! You hear all of these stories from yesteryear about pick-up trucks full of big Reds and 200 Trout days, etc. Would have been fun but I prefer having someone trying to maintain a balance for the future. _________________ Later,

Almost forget this one....
Largest trout on Port A N Jetty, 27 inches, was on an 8in pinfish on the channel side halfway out. I had been using live shrimp on the surf side but the perch were destroying my bait if came too close to the rocks. Slightly annoyed I took that big booger off of the treble hook and onto a big hook I had for for freelining smaller pinfish on another rod. I slapped a big popping cork about 4 feet above it and slung it in the channel. I really didn't expect anything to to take it but within a minute I couldn't find my popping cork. Reeled up to pressure and hooked up. I thought it was a nice red but was a fat trout instead. Pretty neat.

Well that is some good info. I have caught my personal best trout (26") on the bone super spook in the laguna. I have caught some nice and meaty surf specks on the bone/chartruce mirrOlure and silver spoon in the surf, man thats fun catching them in the surf.......the trout seem to be alot stronger out there in the surf. All in all, I agree that in trout fishing down here, the bigger bait.....the bigger trout. If those big trout are going to decide to spend there energy on something, well it better be worth spending their energy on. Can't wait till these bad boys start wrecking havoc in the surf. Later. _________________ CONSERVATION IS KEY |

| An old red/yellow spotted Bingo. Had to retire the last one I had a couple of years ago. It hangs on my workbench now, making me wish they were still manufactured. |

Personal best: 28" free lining a 5" live whiting.
I guess it's all up to the fish and whether or not they are hungry enough to gulp down whatever is there for the taking. |
