The Labor Day to Memorial Day stretch was a long one but finally splashed the boat and fished in the Backyard over the weekend.

CPRed a 26” red Saturday evening on a topwater, which was the highlight. Didn’t get out early Sunday or Monday mornings but caught a few dink trout those days. Sunday morning the ominous looking storm coming in from the east sent me back to the canal and ultimately pushing the lawnmower in the yard.

It is no joke that leaving your boat sitting for a spell results in a less than optimal experience when you want to use it again. Prior to launching at the marina I made sure it would start in the driveway with the rabbit ears on.

The first thing I noticed was that the jack plate wouldn’t budge. Fortunately it was in the down position. Tried two new sets of relays and checked the fuses, no dice. The old motor didn’t want to start. Was about to give up but for whatever reason I emptied the fuel out of the fuel filter canister and it started. Launched, fished and as I was coming in turned the lights on. Well, they came on for a second and then shut off for good.

If you have read all of this so far the next question will not be a surprise. Who do you recommend as a boat mechanic in the Bluff or nearby? The motor is a 2020 Nissan/Tohatsu, 90 HP. Looking to replace impeller, fuel line/primer bulb, have jackplate looked at, lights/wiring, etc. Several years ago I used Mike’s on Graham by Waldron without any complaints but wanting to check with the all-knowing Corpusfishing folks for recs. Thanks!

Hopefully this pic of the red loads.

It’s been my finding that John Reynolds is always busy and hard to reach. If you find that to happen you might try Scott Gunvordahl in the Bluff. He’s mobile.
