I guess it's just me ranting but what a travesty. The silt has been spread far and wide and the marsh is mostly filled in and lifeless. The only part not choked with dredge is the far Northern end. Even that area is holding very few fish, probably because the vast majority of what had been a very fertile area is now choked off and unable to even exchange water.

Who needs pristine fisheries anyway?

I was told that at some point they will come dredge open channels to drain the shallow lakes that used to exist, but have not seen that yet. I am no longer fishing there because the fish have left.

Just how big an area are we talking about? I've never been able to find a diagram of the area or acreage estimate on this thing.

The Inner Harbor, and all of its legacy polluted sediments, conveniently dropped off into what was a productive (albeit receding) low marsh Delta. All under the guise of 'Environmental Enhancement'. Who you gonna believe, the Port of CC and the USA Corps of Engineers, or your lying eyes as you look at the silt buried dead end of Nueces Bay (and by dead end, that's not a reference to it's physical location). Evil or Very Mad

This area is silted in and devoid of visible life. The smaller circled area is partially silted in and chalky water with few fish. Granted, much of it was limited access for motor boats (kayaks don't count for much in the big picture) but it was perfect estuary and teeming with fish.

Some of my favorite memories is fishing the river mouth in the lower right of your pic when I was still in grade school. I'd go with my grandfather in an old jonboat. Looks like that area is destroyed (or close to it) now, no way that isn't going to silt in over time.

it's a complicated problem without an easy fix...the main problem was created by the cities need for water, building the dam and holding the sediment back and rerouting the water away from the delta....the sediment supply that kept the delta nourished was cut off, as well as the freshwater inflows...

fast forward, the face of the delta had been eroding up to 10 feet a year, is the supposed reason "they" (the POCC) placed that dredge there (although they needed to put it somewhere, and used that as an excuse)...it definitely wasn't the perfect solution by any stretch...

someone needs to get the impetus going again to get freshwater inflows back into the delta, although the political will might not be there right now...

"someone needs to get the impetus going again to get freshwater inflows back into the delta"

Agreed. But with 3 entities on the Agreed Order that governs how water is moved from the reservoirs to the Estuary, and 2 of the 3 won't budge. I don't see a way out of this mess............ Cool
It's the City of CC, the City of Three Rivers, and the Nueces River Authority. I'll leave it up to you to pick the one who isn't game to re-open the 2001 Agreed Order...... Shocked Shocked Shocked
