I've never tried to do it myself as I've been afraid I'd screw it up.
but last time it cost me around $350 so I'm ready to give it a whirl.

A couple questions for the braintrust:

Do you need to replace all 20ish parts that come in the kit or just the impeller and cover if everything else looks OK?

I watched a utoob on a guy doing one and he only changed out those two parts...

Also when you crack the lower unit off the engine, are there gaskets in between the two halves or is it just sealed off by properly tightening the bolts?

Is a torque wrench required for those bolts?

I'm fairly handy, just don't want to break the dinosaur lol

I'm no expert but I've done it before. The gaskets don't usually need to be replaced if that's what you're asking.

It's not rocket science but go slow and follow directions. Directions can be gotten on YouTube.

Maybe the best advice I can offer is be sure to have your drive at the helm in the same position as your prop (forward-neutral-reverse). This will be covered in a YouTube video
