|
|
Got a family (Momma and four babies) of Racoons coming out every night and hanging out, eating the cats food, and jumping in the pool! lol
They're really not hurting anything particularly, but they really don't belong in a residential neighborhood.
Don't want to kill them, just need some help finding the right city or county dept to get them relocated.
I know there are pay removal services here but don't know what city agency would handle that?

City avenue is likely a non-starter. The County will likely trap them, and 'dispose' of them (out of sight-out of mind). Calling TPWD will get you a - Call the County angle, as they don't do rehab (birds, deer, turtles, all manner of wildlife...).
If you can get a live trap, the local rehab folks (ARK in Port A, the Seashore (?) place by Packery Channel Park) ..... might ..... take them in.
Honestly, if you can trap them, and you want to move them, just do it yourself and find a spot along Yorktown to let them go. Just know, raccoons are a known rabies carrier. Just be safe. |

| I live between Sandia and the river. When coons become a nuisance I trap them and drive over to the state park at the lake and release them. That would be a 45 minute drive for you but .... |

Yeah,
I figured out the phone call loop was definitely not going anywhere.
And I hadn't thought about the rabies angle.. Definitely need to be careful...
Will be getting with Zia today to borrow his live trap.
Going to be interesting trying to get all five of them...
Then trying to relocate Mom and the babies at the same time..
Last night I went outside, and it was like their summer vacation lol.
Three babies and Mom in the pool, literally 10 feet in front of me..
They did not care I was there at all till I strobed them with my super bright flash light, didn't like that for sure..
Kind of feel bad for them, they're just trying to cool off and get a drink in this heat..
Oh and yeah, cat food being removed before dark each day. _________________ Steve-O

In Ground, or Above Ground Pool?
I'd be worried about the liner if it's an Above Ground (like mine).
We had a litter of 4 kittens back in Feb, and one of them has fallen in 3 times!!! but always made it out unscathed. Without any issues with the liner.
Good luck with the 'masked bandits'. Hope Mom and everybody gets moved.

It's in ground , but I just had it re-plastered this spring and that sure weren't cheap so don't want them clawing that up either.
Also have our two y/o grandson 5-6 days a week, and although the odds of them running into each other is very low, I cannot chance that. They gotta go.. _________________ Steve-O
