Heading to New Mexico Saturday and I wanted to have reds on a half shell to have friends over when we're up there. The only reds I had were already fileted. Went out for a little over an hour today and good news, I was successful. Got a 26-in red. And to throw in for extra added measure 19 inch trout that I let go. Bad news is that I think we're having a bout of brown tide in laguna. Maybe Rebecca or somebody can find out for us and let us know.

I would not expect any different results from such an excellent fisherman!
Have a safe trip to New Mexico and enjoy! I hope the weather forecasters are better there! Laughing

By the way, because the water was so ugly I used my top water with a red sand eel Junior as a dropper about a foot to 18 in below it. The Red grabbed onto the dropper. I work the topwater in the walk the dog pattern with occasional stops on the retrieve.

That's a good idea. I fished for a bit yesterday and wish I had thought to try that.

I got that idea from fly fishing when I use a stimulator and a dropper. The top water is the stimulator and then you have the dropper. I have caught fish on both at the same time before

Several guides are reporting that there is a bloom of brown tide in the upper laguna. The only place they found clean water was Kate's and Dead Man's hole. Doesn't sound good
