After what felt like years , I finally got a chance to get on the water this morning. The tide was moving out and I knew where I wanted to fish, but the water levels were low and I was barely able to push the kayak through the muddy "short cut" into the Nueces marsh. As if the reds had read the script, I found visible bulls patrolling shorelines as the water dumped out along one of the major drains in the marsh, and I hammered four studs (and broke off a couple more) before leaving in search of legal sized fish. I finally found a legal trio in another drain and released one more bonus fish on the way out. What? You can't just pass by an exposed redfish without tossing a bait to see if it wants to play. By 10am water levels were too low to return by the shorter route, so I had to tack on an extra six miles by paddling across the bay and up the river to get back to the truck. It made my 1:00 TEAMS meeting tough, but I paddled hard and made it home with just enough time to put on a clean shirt so the others on the conference call were not aware of my situation. Thankfully it was just video and not smellavision, because my hands and pants were covered in mud and fish blood, lol. Now after a shower and change of clothes, the rods are washed and the rest will wait until after I get home from the office - but I'm smiling!

Well, if this wind ever drops you need a Jack/King trip BTB. |

Agreed - BTB is always on the radar when conditions improve. |
