Here we go, gettin shafted again by TPWD. They hire these liberal proggie leftist biologists and they just cant stop trying to screw the taxpayers that pay their salaries. Enough already!!!!!! Time for these jacoffs to go!!

TPWD Seeks Input on Proposed Changes to Spotted Seatrout Bag, Size Limits
Dec. 15, 2023. The proposed rules would reduce the spotted seatrout bag limit to three fish and restrict the allowable size to 15-20 inches, with one fish over 25 inches allowed daily.

This is BS..

No one said this:
"The rule responds to public scoping and survey efforts by the department which found that many anglers wanted to see more restrictive measures to improve the fishery."[/u]

I just saw the same thing and was ready to post about it. Definitely bs. And I've been catching more fish, and more quality fish, that I've had in a long time.

It's the liberal proggie far left biologists that are in control of TPWD and get to make all the decisions cause they are "scientists" and all of us lemmings must follow the science as they decree. What I am really wondering is why Abbott and the people above these jacoffs let them have so much power. It is obvious that they are doing their dead level best to make a lot of people quit fishing.

Did you attend one of the six coastal meetings recently? I assume not. I went to the meeting in Rockport. There were probably around one hundred people there, total. The TPWD folks presented their findings. The trout population has rebounded big-time in some areas and not in others. They don't know why. That's one reason they had the first meetings, and have scheduled the January meetings. They wanted to hear what the fishermen have seen. The Coastal Bend trout population has recovered greatly.

After their presentation, they opened the floor for input from fishermen and guides. ALL the guides and almost all the fishermen were in favor of a reduced bag limit and slot. I would say at least 50 folks said their say.

Maybe the proposed new limits will motivate the dissenters into going to these meetings and state their opinions. Louisiana's recent trout limits do not allow guides or deckhands to possess a bag. Maybe that's an option.

If you have an opinion, go to the meetings. They're listening, but probably have their plans made. But, they want to know what we, as a group, think.

well the OP like myself is 3hrs away.. not easy to make a special trip...
plus, like many folks who dont live near the coast also have limited
oppertunities to fish there... even though we enjoy coastal fishing as much or possibly more than locals...so a 3-fish limit is a hindrence to us
more-so than someone who is able to wet a line in only a few min. drive...

I'm sure my comment won't be accepted well by my neighbors in Corpus, but since I've spent most of my fishing years 3-4 hours from the coast I am of the opinion there needs to be a system whereby each of us has an annual bag limit, kind of like deer, with a number of tags for each species annually with our licenses. This way it would not matter what your daily bag limit was, because each catch would apply to an annual limit regardless of where one lived.

Texas Jim, thank you for sharing about the public meeting that you attended. It is some good insight for all whom fish the area coastal waters, and a tool whom all have an opportunity to speak up openly in a public forum. Just saying ……cC

I went to the meeting in corpus, and it went pretty much the same way....everyone in the room except for one very vocal retired guide was in favor of going back to the 3 fish limit and a slot, although opinions varied on that point....

and EVERYONE was on board with a trophy trout tag this time around....good to see that finally got some legs...

if you feel very strongly about this, one way or the other, make sure to show up in Austin and do public comment at the March meeting....TPWD doesn't monitor this site anymore...

That is not a bad idea. People from the coast get a bag limit when they come to the hill country to shoot deer and it is the same as that of those who live in the hill country. So, living in the hill country doesn't give us an advantage so that we can go out and shoot deer every day like those who live on the coast can do with fishing. Doesn't sound equitable, does it. Dayum, I'm now using the word equity and I hate that word!!!

Really needed to post it 3 times did you? Sorry, but that dog won't hunt. The idea that I can't complain about something the TPWD nazies are doing just because I can't jump into the car and drive for almost 4 hours, pay for a motel, meals, etc., for a public meeting lasting an hour or 2 is absolutely ridiculous! Maybe the only fair way to do this is to have these meetings all over the state, in the hill country, far west texas, panhandle, etc., cause we ALL HAVE A DOG IN THIS HUNT, not just you who live on the coast!!!

JUST SAYIN!!!!........RR
