We have just returned from spending Labor Day with family at our mountain cabin elevation 8,000 ft.
This year has been an exceptional year for the nesting broadtail hummers. Their numbers at our feeders were amazing. This is the weekend we stop feeding so they start to leave. Be prepared for them on their migration.
Unusual that this season we have had zero rufous hummers and limited ruby throat birds.
For you dove hunters it also appears the morning doves had an excellent recruitment this season. However, I am unsure that these birds end up in Texas.
As far as season changes here the next cold front will bring freezing temperatures and October will bring snow.
November means no wheeled vehicle travel to our cabin. Only over snow travel.
Like the birds we will be migrating south afterward Christmas with family.
