Saturday I was paddling the back edges of Nueces bay on a super low tide. My usual target areas were off limits and full of exposed mud. I found one drain that offered enough water to float into the marsh, and a few hundred yards farther down I tried to come out the next drain. Water was literally only an inch deep, and the kayak was dragging in the mud. I tried getting out to push the boat, but the mud was above knee level so I got back into the kayak and just pushed with the paddle. Behind me the trail was clear with mud piles every spot I had finished a paddle stroke. Progress was slow but steady, and as I approached the drain it became obvious that a bunch of predators were smashing bait along the edges. I slowed even more to hide the noise of the dragging boat, and soon got within range of the closest action. Two redfish ate the soft plastic I tossed toward them, and then I noticed some bait being harassed in extremely shallow water. It was right along the shoreline where even the finger mullet were only partially submerged. Something was stirring them up, and as soon as I saw a swirl I put the lure beside the commotion. The hit was instant, and as I set the hook a flounder cleared the water with my lure in his mouth. A quick scoop with the net and the 17.5" flattie became a welcome addition to my stringer. Clawing through that soft mud was a lot of work, but it was a nice change from all the long miles on the gulf in the last few weeks.

Knee deep mud! Been there, done that before I ever started using a kayak. Have to love the ease of access one can afford. Sounds like you may need to add a push pole to your gear or at least a paddle which easily concerts to one.
Sometimes a flounder hooked in such shallow water can dance off the hook, so glad to see hooked it good! Smile

As soon as I touched the lure in his mouth it fell out... not even in to the barb, lol. Sometimes luck is enough. Very Happy
