Not clear where the meristem is (I even googled it first!)
But yeah, these were the two that took the longest to come back after the freeze.
Thought they were gonna make it...
They're dead now right? _________________ Steve-O

I would suppose they are dead now. All that time to come back and this happens. Too bad. I had avocados that took 4 months to sprout out and come back, I thought they were goners, so ya never know. _________________ "In your guts you know he's nuts" |

I guess that wind came right up Whiteley Dr.
The two that snapped were also the two right closest to the street..
"Bob the Tree Guy" took care of them first thing this morning so all good now, but still hate to lose these old trees.
He was surprised they snapped there when the new growth looked so good.
However, there was only a tiny core inside, about the diameter of a baseball bat handle that was still alive in the middle..
Guess the freeze did them in, but they gave it their best shot.. _________________ Steve-O

| A palm next to our house on Whiteley channel did the same thing, but it was near the water on a house on Martha Dr. The thought this was a result of the freeze is what I surmised from what I have observed. This makes me wonder what percentage of the trees, including the Norfork(sp?) Pines in the immediate area were lost, due to the freeze? One yard near the East end of Martha Dr. lost approximately six of the pines in their street front yard, and I remember Coach Zia lost a couple, as well. |

| I've been looking and haven't found a single Norfolk Pine in town that lived through the freeze. In lots of neighborhoods they were the tallest trees by far and it's a shame that they're gone. |
