When chasing redfish lately I'm doing pretty well with the old crab flies, but I keep seeing tiny (+/- 1.5") shrimp jumping ahead of cruising reds. I got to thinking that on those really still mornings a small shrimp fly might just be the ticket to getting spooky fish to eat. After two evenings of experimenting at the bench I have come up with something I think will work

That doesn't look very appetizing to me, it looks like a good case of indigestion!
Just kidding, great job, and it looks durable enough to last more then a couple of reds. However, it might pick up more trash then you would prefer. |

| Bayfly, this would be for an area with mud bottoms. I'm working on another idea for grassy flats. It's gonna be a little more complicated, but then again that's half the fun of having a tying bench. |

This is my take on the redfish crack pattern. I did not come up with the design but it is relatively simple to tie and works well.

| Very nice pattern. Do you prefer the dumbell eyes to large bead chain for any particular reason? Again, nice work. |

Thanks, the extra small dumbbells sink a bit better to keep the fly closer to bottom during retrieve. Reds seem to eat it better when it stays well below the surface. |
