| Interesting. All of the surf or just the surf south of the JFK causeway? |

Correct, no way to know if they were caught in Baffin or the Boat Hole.
I'm afraid that they may not reverse back to 15 " min and 5 fish a day.
This will result in floating dead fish from culling.
They should have just made more of an educational campaign to just keep what you eat. |

| I am glad they did something. This is got to help. Plus it looks like 23 inch and greater trout are not able to be kept at all. Those are important breeders. Maybe some of the fishing guides will target black drum more this summer for fish to keep. There is certainly plenty of them...although they did take a hit also. |

I'm more then surprised they would pass some rule they can't police and is not representative of the overall damage to the resource or areas effected.

Local Game Wardens are face-planting into hands wondering how a trout in the box can be identified as north or south...
Maybe it is an effort to educate, and enforcement is secondary... _________________ "In your guts you know he's nuts" |

Regardless, we know what the rules are, whether they are enforceable or not doesnt matter. If the people who have studied the damage think this will help , so be it. I am a lowly whiting fisherman anyway. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

| This is fantastic news, glad to see them getting right out and addressing it. I would have skipped the bump up to 17", if folks want to keep three 15 inchers let them. But i could not be happier, plenty of other fish in the sea for meat hauls. Hope they see a quick rebound and a return to prior limits. |

I read somewhere that this expires in 90 (120?) days and can only be extended once for 60 days. |

I imagine it would be similar to the 5 trout / 10 trout water body differences from a few years ago. You could catch 3 17-23 south of the causeway and move north of the causeway to catch 2 more 15-25, as long as you don't cross back south of it. (I guess you would have to make sure you launch North of the causeway too)
I'm still not convinced this isn't an April Fools joke. "emergency regulations" starting in 7 days, on a Thursday, April 1st? |

| Commission will reevaluate in 120 days after they get spring gillnet surveys. They could expand the range of the new regulations or change them if they think they need to from the data. I suspect it will be in place in corpus for at least a year. But who knows. If they leave this in place for a year or two...I think this will have a tremendously positive impact. |

The slot they picked has the highest probability of catching traveling schoolie males.
Nursery trout females can be up to 16", and fish over 23" has a very high probability of being female.
Can show plenty of stringers in that slot without a single female. Offhand, can only remember one female I filleted from that slot. |

How do you tell the difference between a male and a female speckled trout ? Without killing it ? _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

| You can't Donnie, until you get them to the fillet table, but 17 to 23 is my normal slot, anyway, and for just this reason. |
