Ought to be greatly improved, as Mother Nature put a large dent in the bait-stealing hardhead population currently infesting our local beaches!
This was from this morning, around Newport Pass Rd. I'm planning on a trip to SBH later today, but I suspect it will look similar. Couple of days ago, just scattered hardheads, now a pretty solid line. Only a few trout, and an occasional big black drum, but nothing extreme, given the 19 degrees registered at my place in the Bluff.

So, I made that trip down SBH way, a mile or so south of the Bowl. Just scattered hardheads again, but not nearly the numbers like I saw this morning around Newport Pass.
Then, this Lady stops right in front of me, and YOU LITERALLY CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP, she is picking up the biggest hardheards and checking the gills, and smelling them at the mouth,..... and keeps 2 'nice ones' and puts them in her car!!!! I am dying laughing in the Jeep, thinking "Who Does That, Who has Time"!!!!!!

Thanks for the report. Still too early to get the scope of any fish kills in our bay systems as many dying or dead fish have yet to float to the surface. There was a good vid on U-tube this AM showing clips from various guides ranging up and down the coast from South Padre to Matagorda. They seem to think in about a week or so we should see if there is to be a significant fish kill. _________________ Mike |

How thick was the line of hardheads then, because just now, it's pretty solid for the first mile ++ headed south. WAY more than yesterday.
Was going to take the dogs for a run, but bailed after about a mile 1/2 down. Every size hardhead you could imagine, some drum, a few trout, pinfish, and rocks!
Not sure where the rocks come from, but the first mile south of Bob Hall is notorious for busted up concrete/rocks washing in. |

Thats great news! I'm gonna give it try Tuesday. Even if the fish aren't biting still be good to get some beach time!
One question though is everything back to normal down there? Power and water and stuff? I'll be heading to Victoria tomorrow morning and to pins Tuesday. If anything is in short supply I might could pick it up and deliver if somebody needs something. |

A decade or so ago, my dad and I were going out on a pier...Want to say it was the Fulton city pier...anyway, it was empty except for one old man at the end with a big cooler next to him. Sunny but calm winter day.
We decided to be friendly and ask him how it was going. "It's going great! I'm catching my limit on some sharks!" he replied in a northern-midwestern accent. Sharks were already on the heavy side of being limited by then, so as you can imagine, we were both a bit skeptical.
Before we could think of a kind way to question him, he popped open his cooler and I poo poo you not - it had about 10 or 15 medium to large hardheads in it. My dad and I looked at each other, looked at the fish, looked at each other again and then came that moment where we were thinking the exact same thing - "Do you want to tell him or should I???"
We decided to be gentlemen and let the man enjoy his day. We very quickly packed our things and wished him well and went off in search of another place to fish.
Your story reminded me so much of that I had to share. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |
