I can confirm that the pier is finally open. The new lights have been running for some time now. Only having lived here for a year I was interested to see what the fishing used to be like prior to it being closed down. New benches and cleaning stations but the water was not on this morning during our daily dog walk. |

I saw those lights driving in to town the other day. The pier looks awesome. I wonder if they are going to patrol it more to keep the vandalism/ drug use/ homelessness down. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

It looks great, but I always thought the area was shady as heck. I don't feel like replacing any truck windows. |

I feel compelled to reply about the concern about it's location. Unless the North side of Flour Bluff is a lot worse then the South side I think the concern is misguided. We have owned property in the North side of Flour Bluff now for over 5 years and have never had the first problem with anyone. However, before we located here we heard a lot of concerns about Flour Bluff, drugs, etc.
I'm sure there are drug users here, but there are drug users everywhere. In addition, I have gone to the North side of Flour Bluff for dining purposes multiple times and to buy retail products without a single incident. This is not to say Flour Bluff did not have a problem more then other areas of CC at some time in the past, but it's not our experience at this time. |

Before Harvey, when the pier was 'not well maintained' (no lights anywhere at all) but still open, my buddies and I went out and fished it late night after work. Since there were no lights the bite wasn't great, but we had a good time. That was the night I caught the "hat fish" LOL. I still have the hat, too. Assuming (from the style) some poor woman must've lost it off a boat cruising the channel nearby. Anyway, while there were transients using the picnic tables as beds there, they did not seem any bit disturbed by us or anyone else that came and went - and a lot of vehicles did come and go over the course of a few hours, both scoping out the pier and the 'kayak ramp'/beach. While we kept an eye on the parking lot, we never felt 'unsafe' at any point. Now with lights, I would feel much better.
I am ready to go back out there again under the lights. I bet there's some good trout action. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |

I used to stop by there to catch bait (perch, mullet) regularly. I think I only "fished" it once with no luck. |
