Any idea/predictions when the cold water upwelling will move out?

It bottomed out on the 12th at a little less than 84F, and is slowly recovering. The color was marginally better last evening around Packery, but it's still pretty far out to the green/blue water. Only thing I saw caught were hardheads. Maybe a couple more days and it will clear out.

looking at Ripcharts, the upwelling extends all the way south past Tampico....if it were to magically shut off today, assuming a 1 knot current, it would take about 20 days to train out of the system....

I'm guessing about another month, unless something happens...

Becky speaks volumes of truth. It's wide, it's pinned against the coast, and it's going to take some time to wash out.
This is the latest satellite Gulf image of today.

After looking at the location of the cold water, it looks to correspond with the swell chart at https://magicseaweed.com/Gulf-of-Mexico-Surf-Chart/63/?type=swell&spot_id=361&start=2020-07-13&end=2020-07-20&timestamp=1594944000

If the swell chart is correct, we may see some relief by the 19th. Wishful thinking.

Question!

How does an upwelling affect fishing within that area? From what I've gathered from researching myself, an upwelling actually brings in nutrients along with the cold water, which would help bring fish to the given area. From my trip to Port Mansfield Jetties this past weekend, it was almost lifeless out there with the water being so cold. Could it be that life returns in abundance after the upwelling has subsided but left all the nutrients in its place?

I have a theory that I have been hoping to confirm about upwellings.
I think they bring big snapper closer to shore with the cooler water.
Some real monsters were caught at the liberty ships on Friday and a really nice one was even caught from Boca Chica beach

Seeing good progress in 1 day. The width/strength of the cold water has weakened drastically, gulf water looks to be warming.

Will post one day comparison of satellite images later today. Should see good progress in a week.

Still moving in the wrong direction. As of this morning, the temps have cycled down to 81.5 F. Sad Color looked better, with some green water invading the 3rd gut, but that's pretty chilly!
