The barricades were moved around 6:30 or so this am, so it's time to hit the surf and make up for lost time. Some new upwelled grass pieces on the newest tide line, decent water color, and still some sargassum but nothing too bad. Zahn Rd. will be closed for some time, due to construction.

All them surf fish are lonely, so get out there before this weekend when it packs up again with tourists. Rolling Eyes

"decent water color"........

At sunrise, it looked maybe a 6 or a 7 on the scale of 10.
At lunch, it's just brown and choppy south of Bob Hall. Maybe a 4.... Lots of rods out, didn't see s single fish landed. But given the color (brown past the 4th bar - poor green after that), I'd expect to see a few tossed hardheads on the beach the next day or so. Rolling Eyes

We drove down pins to about 6 miles or so. Even at 7 the water was nasty and brown. We caught a few croaker, whiting and a ton of hardheads. We were pull cats out 2 at a time on drop rigs.

I never saw a ladyfish break water or anything else for that matter. No hits on anything artificial. We left out about 11 with a couple keeper whiting. Going to try and find some cleaner water in the morning.

One word. Upwelling.

Seasonal thing, worse some years, better in others. But when the surf looks like chocolate milk in Summer, and you see lines and lines of bleached seagrass pieces (all about the same size.....I've never quite figured out who has that Job to sit on the bottom and cut them all into uniform size pieces??), it's all due to wind speed and direction.

Give it a few day, it ought to clear up. Cool

I did talk with Towboat this morning and he was on his way before I realized who it was. Heck of a nice guys. He stopped and chatted about what time park opened on his way down to shark fish a bit. Hopefully he will make one of his epic post on better results than we had.

Yep ... you can see it on the BHP cam. On their site they haven't been showing the water temps at the pier but you don't really need them when you can see it

My heart goes out to avid surf fishermen..

At the end of June, temps were running between 90 and 93, and then the bottom fell out around the 2nd of July. Fell to 88, and recovered with the tide, but dropped the next two tide cycles to 87, and now pushing 86.5.

Blucher Institute has the weather station on the end of the pier, when I get all my data.

Went down to Access Road 2 this morning. Went almost all the way south to the jetties. Water was cold, chocolate milk color for about as far as you could see. I couldnt find mullet or anything in the surf with net.

I didn catch a small 8" pompano in wade gut with my castnet.

1 small whiting, lots of hardheads and 1 18" diameter ray on lite tackle which made for a fun few minutes

Yeah the conditions suck, but we are just here for the week so we will do the best we can with what we are given. Sure beats being at the office.

What wind direction usually causes the chocolate milk conditions?
