I'm not on any mailing lists so I don't know why they sent me this unless it's because I'm a CCA member or something, but some (if not a lot of you) may have received this too. The Army Corps of Engineers is opening themselves to public commentary now about the channel dredging.

I'm not gonna say anymore than that, but here are pics of the letter if you have any interest in partaking:

Perfect, thanks. So quite literally, the old casino-cruise terminal is going to be the VLCC? Yikes. I imagined it a bit further off the ferry landing at least. That's just too close for comfort. Interesting to look at, until our channel looks like Houston/Galveston. JMO. 5-10 years, at best, before we can't consume our own catches there or even within 30~ miles of it.

I'm also guessing, by the pictures, that the old road to Martin will be privatized/secured, so no more wade fishing back in there? My dad still calls that his "secret" spot to this day even though it ain't so secret. So pretty much all the way up to the Lighthouse Lakes area?

SMFH. Support it or not. I'm not. Use the old Ingleside base, you turds. I honestly don't mind the channel being dredged - with the supposed 'care' the plan on, but putting the VLCC right F'ing there?! We have so many other places they could make port.

I cracked the can-o-worms, didn't I? Rolling Eyes Wink Laughing

To clarify: I'm a capitalist fiscally, and a libertarian socially. I never identify with one single party or agenda. But to me, this is beyond ridiculous. Our LUST for oil needs to stop. I don't like liberal places like Austin that ban plastic bags outright then make you pay $0.25-$0.50/bag for paper sacks (which used to be the standard and were far more environmentally friendly) - or forcing you to buy several "reusable" bags that they get free advertising off of and only hold 5-10 items/ea, but coming up with a punishment and fine before a legitimate solution - is just asinine.

We've made our voices known and we will continue to...but once it's actually built, why not blockade it? Last I checked, VLCC's had no armor or legitimate weapons. Bring it, dickfaces. Even if they do, this is F'ing Texas. Good luck!

Find the alternative, not more places to make the current situation work until they find it. Harbor Island isn't "it". The idea for a ship to moor offshore to a pumping port has not only been pitched but it also exists. They do it in other places already. More expensive? Maybe. But more environmentally and community friendly, also YES. Next choice = Look at the leftovers of Ingleside. It was the deep-water ship equivalent to what NAS CC is now to Aviation Training. Yes, most if not all of it has been sold too private companies, but it's the same private companies that want these VLCCs coming here. So use what you've got. #WeArentGalveston

Someone, help. I need a few redfish and a few beers.

Sorry to go off. Not trying to start arguments but I did let them know my mindset, since I won't able to attend any of the CCs/meetings.

I think it's plain silliness to dredge 1/2 of Harbor Island to make open water berths....new land isn't being made, and once it's gone, it's gone...there are many other uses of that land other than dredging it out...

yes, run pipelines offshore and do your filling out there...

Pitched, and discussed, but it's biggest critic is......none-other-than the Port of CC.
Which means it will never happen. Follow the $$'s.

yeah, they kind of got blindsided by that one; billions of dollars dredging the channel deeper to bring ships in, when someone else just thought "lets just take it offshore in a pipeline"....

did they think they were just going to do this massive dredging job and no one was going to come up with a cheaper and better idea?

Oops....

Deeper channel, taller bridge = CRUISE SHIPS! Thanks, Feds.

I thought they were saving Harbor Island for a Desal Plant(a better idea, IMO).

Remember the Alyeska Pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez? The greenie-weenies held that up for years, whining about disrupting the caribou migration(didn't bother them at all).

Last time I was at the end of Harbor Island Road, there were hundreds of feral hog and wild pig tracks! Where are the porcine conservationists? If they build a pipeline from AP to Harbor Island, it might make the hogs go away! Dang!

Plus, there were huge piles of household garbage, dead TV's & appliances, old sofas and much more. If they build this tank farm and dock facility, where will the two-legged pigs go to litter in peace? The two and four-legged pigs need a support group!

The cruise ship port has been a goal all through this, even though they don't mention it in their plans. (As an insider [sort of], I can tell you the Port wants nothing to do with them but it's how they sold the city on it. City of CC WILL have a cruise 'terminal' within a few years as a bi-product of this whole deal. P.S. - Little known fact, but the convention center downtown was designed to convert into an 'emergency' cruise terminal if need be. I imagine that will be converted into THE cruise terminal.)

There are no activists for pigs, Jim, because they're considered, well - pigs! (Except vegans, maybe...) LOL I'm following your sargassum BTW...oh I mean sarcasm. Just adding to it. The javelinas are game animals unfortunately, but still a nuisance animal as are feral pigs. Get a hunting license, sleigh them, eat them.
