It is quite ridiculous to prevent people from isolating themselves on the beach...sparing the boring details of family issues and heavy workloads lately, I wanted nothing more this weekend than to escape from all the madness...had plans to head way down PINS, post up my tent and lines, and watch the stars on the sliver of a moon Saturday night. What's more is predictions show the middle of the night to have clear skies! Ideal conditions and we all know I wouldn't see but maybe just a couple people driving by...Just terrible logic closing the beaches.
Rant over, sorry folks.. I know many of us feel the same way and I don't mean to be redundant. But this is just annoying me to no end. |

Be sure to look just to the left of the Big Dipper, about 1/2 way to Polaris. Comet ATLAS (C2019 Y4) is rapidly brightening and sports quite the green tail.

Good to know. Thanks!

Unfortunately, PINS is closing at 8pm and not allowing overnight camping. |

I obviously agree with these expressed feelings about the closure of the Port Aransas land, beach and jetties to fishing, and PINS at night when these areas are probably the safest areas for any of us to be during this crisis. |

Makes complete sense if the real goal is to keep out of town people from coming to Port A. Mayor probably will not admit it, but I am comfortable that's the real reason. _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!

| I think you are right. The goal was to stop out of town visitors. If Vail and Aspen, Colorado closed down their ski slopes, it would sure put an end to most, if not all, of their out of town visitors. |

Then just shut it down to folks who don't live, work, or own property there? You can still fish offshore or in a bay boat.
It's like you want to keep the great unwashed out - those that can't afford a boat or a guide and have to fish from shore. Otherwise nobody should be on the beach. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I'm thinking a large portion of Spring Breakers that ignored any warnings are gonna see a massive spike in C-19. Same thing is happening all those that celebrated Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Very aggressive step the city is taking, but maybe it will help? Or too liitle too late? _________________ I like fishies |

I am not a lawyer, but the mayor may not be aware of a Texas State Constitutional Ammendment passed in 2015:
The amendment added a Section 34 to Article 1 of the Texas Constitution. The following text was added:
Sec. 34.
(a) The people have the right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife, including by the use of traditional methods, subject to laws or regulations to conserve and manage wildlife and preserve the future of hunting and fishing.
(b) Hunting and fishing are preferred methods of managing and controlling wildlife.
(c) This section does not affect any provision of law relating to trespass, property rights, or eminent domain.
(d) This section does not affect the power of the legislature to authorize a municipality to regulate the discharge of a weapon in a populated area in the interest of public safety.
Gov. Greg Abbott said:
Proposition 6 protects your rights as a Texan to hunt and fish. Texans have long lived off the bounty of the land. Hunting and fishing are family traditions, and we know how to conserve our natural resources for future generations.
Supporters of the measure, including the NRA, acknowledged that no one had tried to curb the right to hunt and fish in Texas. Instead, they justified the amendment as a safeguard against future threats by anti-hunting groups. |
Got a copy printed to take fishing with me. |

You're getting a first hand look at how power hungry elitist politicians work. _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!

What part of the above do you think protects you?? I don't see any provision that cancels a home rule cities ability to make this kind of regulations for public health and safety. I sure would not be comfortable going fishing with it in my pocket. _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!

If you were to fish from the beach in Nueces County, you could also carry a copy of County Judge Barbara Canales Order, which allows fishing:
(see: https://www-cdn.cctexas.com/sites/default/files/covid-19-judge-canales-stay-at-home-order.pdf ) :
2. Definitions: a. For purposes of this Order, individuals may leave their residence only to perform any of the following "Essential Activities": i. To engage in activities or perform tasks essential to their health and safety, or to the health and safety of their family or household members (for example, obtaining medical supplies or medication, visiting a health care professional, or obtaining supplies needed to work from home). ii. To obtain necessary services or supplies for themselves and their family or household members, or to deliver those services or supplies to others (for example, food, pet supply, and any other household consumer products, and products necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences.) iii. To engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with the social distancing requirement of six (6) feet (for example, walking, biking, hiking, fishing, running, boating, wading, or surfing). All beaches within the geographic boundaries of Nueces County are open for regular hours of operation but with a 8p.m. curfew, although access to such beaches may be monitored and/or limited to assure that no vehicles park within one hundred (100) feet of another vehicle. All city and county public parks within the geographic boundaries of Nueces County are open for regular hours of operation. iv. To perform work providing essential products and services at an Essential Business or to otherwise carry out activities specifically permitted in this Order. v. To care for a family member(s) or a pet (or pets) in another household.
Near the bottom of her order is this:
11. This Order of County Judge Barbara Canales applies to all incorporated and unincorporated areas of Nueces County. To the extent of a conflict between decisions of Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales and a mayor of any city within the geographic boundaries of Nueces County, the decisions set forth in this Order prevail (to the fullest extent allowed by law pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 418.108(h). |

| I applaud Judge Canales' well thoughtout Order, except I don't understand the closure of PINS at 8PM. I would imagine the 8PM closure has more to do with the impact on monitoring personnel than anything else. The City of Port A can learn from her wisdom. |
