no kidding...geez, that one guy liked to hear himself talk and repeat himself over and over...

and the City's representatives appeared to sincerely want the citizens input.

that was the main point of the meeting, can everyone stomach doing all three segments at the same time?

BayFly wrote:
My main concern which was not satisfied is how we are going to have reasonable egress and ingress to our properties, and I don't think those with the City know either!

now I know who you are....they CAN NOT block you in your house, that's illegal...they said that several times...in areas where there's houses, they do one side of the road and then the other, and have flaggers for one side to move at a time...I'm sure you've seen it before, and it will be no different...

BayFly wrote:
I thought I should add, the elevation of the third section is reported to be 5' above mean sea level now, but section 2 and one (1) will need to be increased. .

that was a goof on someone at the City's part (some admin person, they were not there last night)....segments 1 and 2 will be raised to approximately 3.5'...anything OVER 5 will not be raised....I'm not sure how someone got that message that far out of whack in the public notice...

There is also a "wetlands" mitigation area to be addressed by application for a federal grant, if I heard correctly. The overall project involves drainage corrections and extension of utilities, as well.

mitigation by a federal permit, not grant....I wish it worked that way! but it's the other way around...

hope this clears a few things up for you...we wish that more folks had used the microphone, as a lot of people couldn't hear and asked the same questions...that meeting only needed to be about 15 minutes but droned on for an hour and a half with the same concerns being repeated, and also by the "grandstanders" in the house...

Thanks again Becky for taking the time to enlighten us about what we are about to experience with Laguna Shores' improvement. The only time I thought about saying anything was to counter the comment about people driving 300 mph on the Section 3. I usually drive about 25 mph in that section and I think I already have some loose teeth, and I feel like my head is coming off my shoulders sometimes! However, I don't think road conditions necessarily slow some people down. Recently, we had a neighbor using Shore Drive to show his younger family members how fast his motorcycle could accelerate in a few short blocks, including over and around the pot holes!
I'm sure glad to learn about the planned width of 12' per lane of the future Laguna Shores, especially due to the many boats on trailers, including mine. I'm going to project the improvement of the road could totally change the public's outlook towards Flour Bluff, at least on the South side of SPID, and substantially change the popularity of the area. Now, if we could just get Yorktown extended to PINS we would be sitting pretty! Laughing

Shhh--- Don't tell The Nueces Appraisal District of the improved road, or they will try to "increase your property value" and thereby increase your taxes.

I always said that road "kept the riff-raff in" (including me).

Rumors of an apartment complex just north of Hustlin Hornet, almost to Lola Johnson Rd, might be built during the road construction?

Our experience is property taxes are higher in Corpus Christi than in Austin, and especially the roads are very poorly maintained. If there was not a Texas highway running through CC E&W and N&S we would be in a lot worst shape for roads, because what is not a state highway is generally full of pot holes. What does CC waste all of our money on?

Special interest groups and their ideas. Which have nothing to do with the city as a whole.
Also dumb investments.

I recall the Laguna Shores project is to begin in February, so does anyone have an update. Crews had been surveying and locating current improvements for some time now, thus I have been encouraged the the CoCC may actually do the project! Hopefully maintenance of the potholes will continue until construction starts?

the schedule slid back a couple months, and I'm not even going to get into why....but the permit application has been submitted, as well as the final engineering letter report....60% engineering drawings are on the schedule, should be submitted here in the next couple weeks...

short story; we're hoping to go to bid in April; yes, that seems like forever away, but these things do take time...

It looks like Flour Bluff Road is going to be widened all the way to Yorktown at about the same time Laguna Shores is scheduled to be improved? Does anyone have information about this project?

They have been laying a new sewer line (think that's what it is). Doubtful they will be expanding and rebuilding Flour Bluff Dr. Hope I am wrong. They came in and made ""improvement" patches to it a couple of years ago. Managed to make it even rougher. Celebrating 20 years in the bluff, and have seen about 2% improvement on the streets. 20 years x 5k avg for RE tax =100k for just my property. Really getting our monies worth. Shameful.

Graduated from FBHS is 1982, and Laguna Shores, Yorktown, and Graham Rd look exactly like they did when I had 'sweetheart' that we used to go parking out on Roscher Estates, way back when, before it had streetlights. Don't hold your breath.
Cool

If any of you are very familiar with Austin, Mopac(1), a central Austin major thoroughfare was approved in 1946, and the initial portion of it was built in the early 1980s! BTW, they are still adding to it and making changes in 2020!

Austin destroyed homes, put interstate type hiway in folks backyards, and split neighborhoods to build MoPac, expanding an existing railroad right-of-way with the new roadway (complete with on-ramps and exits). Sorry, but not really a comparison to these 2 and 4 lane roads needing upgraded.
