Had a little time today so i decided to try a spot i have never fished, but looked promising. On my second cast I ended up catching a decent 18 inch flounder, i started to really focus on slow bumping on the bottom and ended up catching two more, but they were undersized. I do enjoy gigging flounder but I don't catch many flounder on rod and reel, nor do i aggressively target them. I'm not really looking for specific spots but would like some knowledge on water depths or areas of water that may hold more flounder, and lure/lure colors that may work well especially as we are getting into fall/winter. Thanks for any info. |

Fish clean bottom next to just about any structure or sides of channels where the grass meets the sand. Flounder like the current eddies around structure as the bait fish get swirled around in them and they pounce. For lures I like the white gulp curly tail in either 3" or 4". Use a heavier jig head than you would normally use so you can stay in contact with the bottom as you bounce it along. If you get the tail eaten by perch either switch to a gulp with a thicker tail like a shrimp, or go to an old fashioned conventional curly tail in white. I have tried all the other colors and white (like the underside of a bait fish) is what has been my go to for years and has paid off big time. _________________ Cody |

Ditto above on location and action.
I've caught more flounder with the old school String Ray Grub than anything else. (White or white base and your choice of tail color).

Great info and remember their bite can be aggressive or just simply your jighead stops like the barb it a rock or a piece of grass. Count a few seconds and set the hook. Sometimes it is a rock or grass but it will surprise you how soft they can be at times. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

bottom bouncing is the key, and certain colors may be more visible in the mud, but haven't found flounder to be terribly picky, a big one last April on a black-back SS3. |

I always used the plastic worm spec rigs, just jerked along the bottom on the edges of drains or around structure on the downstream side. Those cutouts barges cause on the intracoastal work too.
Just find moving water first. No current, no flounder. |

And WEIGHT. Same plastic, but rig a few with different weight jig heads until you find the one that you can work with in whatever current you find...before you start... _________________ Fish ON! |

There is a youtube video of a guy fishing Red Dot pier for flounder. He cast no more than 5-6 feet from the pier and just walks along the pier bumping his white jig along. He caught a bunch of flounder. People used to do the same on the pier at the NAS. _________________ Gary J

I caught many large flounder this time of year wading on the flat between the Cosway pier and the old hiway bridge. I had the best luck using an adjustable styrafoam cork with live shrimp, pin perch or mullet adjusted so the bait was bumping the bottom, either under the second opening under the bridge or over the weed beds/sand holes on the flat(some hits would be within 6' of where I was standing or near the pilings). The secret is to just keep casting over the same area and it seems like once you get a bite(cork gets stuck)let them take it for 10 secs and set the hook hard they'll continue biting. You can get trout in deeper waters by the pilings. |

When the bridge off of flour bluff drive on the Oso was there used to walk along the bridge bouncing Jigheads on the bottom and get as many flowers I wanted. Won several tournaments doing that. But the bridge is no longer there except for the pilings. Used to be a great place to catch foounder |

You could probably wade through there and do that. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |
