Hi all, Quick question I was at a fish market in Kemah, TX they had Speckled Trout for sale. The trout are good size 18"-20". Just curious about the commercial harvest of trout. I'm sure these are not Texas trout but where are they from? They are selling for $3.27 LB.
Side note love the forum no drama no hype just great info. I will be working on my push pole net for my Granddaughter never heard of one till this forum.
Thanks for all great info everyone contributes in this forum. |

| Could possibly be from Louisiana. They are still allowed commercially there IF you meet several special stipulations. Definitely not as targeted as redfish commercially there, however there are surely a few still possessing their spotted seatrout permit there. Problem is their legal season ended in July, so it still wouldn't be legal from there either. |

I saw specks for sale in Alabama too. They also sell farm raised redfish here too I know Fisherman's Bait stand sells redfish. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

| Speckled trout are fished commercially legally in many states and in Mexico. Most of the seafood you see in a typical seafood market comes from nowhere near here, no reason to assume the trout would be. |

I'm going to bet farm raised. Check the maps near Palacios especially - LOTS of fish "farms" producing mostly redfish privately, and ironically close to a TPWD hatchery. Most of them that have websites that seem to focus on reds, but I bet they produce trout too. There may be a special license/law/etc to produce them farm raised to sell directly to markets. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |
