| As I obsessively check wind, water, and surf observations in the days leadung up to a surf fishing trip, I've noticed that the water temperature at BHP is dropping like a rock (down to 82 from 88 last night) and has yet to stop. The SPI Brazos reporting station is currently reporting a water temperature of 73.6 degrees. Given that cold water=muddy water in the summer from what I understand, is it possible that the water stays clear and the trout stay due to the lower winds and surf? I was unlucky enough to fish a cold water upwelling in July of 2016 and the trout fishing was a complete bust. Needless to say, I'm kinda freaking out as I'm now a day away from my Port Aransas vacation. I've long lurked this site, and I've gotten a lot of great info from the posters. Thank ya'll and tight lines. |

yeah, I just checked Ripcharts, and sure enough, the upwelling train is getting cranked up....there's something different about it this year, as it stretches all the way down to Tampico....I'm not sure I've seen it that far south before?
what's REALLY dang interesting is the loop current out in the gulf....it's calving an eddy right now, and I'm not sure I've seen an eddy this big before....it's a pretty interesting season so far!!!

| Pretty interesting is not how I would describe it Jay! Pain in my supple bum! We are still catching fish though. One thing I would call "interesting" is we had 27 trout and 4 redfish the other day. Out of those was one keeper red, not uncommon for this time of year but only 5 keeper trout which as you well know it's rare to catch one or two dinks but 22 in a day is by far a record for me!
