I know many surf fishermen are disappointed with the chocolate milk water that moved into our area recently, including yours truly. For Pete's sake, we have been waiting for two months for the high wind to abate, and now when it has finally done so, and we want to get after the fat surf trout on topwaters, we have hardhead paradise. Okay, rant over.
Anyone been down to PINS today that can report on the water clarity? I can't tell for certain, but it looks like the surf might be considerably clearer on the Malaquite beach cam than at Bob Hall or Port A. I am dying to throw Spooks at the tide runners. Thanks. |

Water clarity was great past the 10. My wife and I made it into the thirties this morning. On a scale of 1-10 it was a 9. Im glad we went. _________________ You won't know if you don't go! |

Top waters are the way to go. Theres just enough old stringy weed to mess up sub surface lure fishing. I started off with a rattle trap and it kept getting fouled and the same with the mirrodine. I had no trouble with tops. Caught four trout and missed a couple more. Good luck!

I was hoping to hit the surf for a bit in a few hours. But with three kids in tow with a small car PINS is outta the question. What was water clarity south of SBH yesterday? _________________ "When times are tough,

North and South of Packery was kinda like weak chocolate milk. Better than Saturday, but the green water still pretty far out.
Best make it a weekday trip, as it was shoulder to shoulder down to the Bowl yesterday [and the first 1/2 mile just south of Bob Hall is pretty rutted out - not 4WD rutted, but saw numerous little cars getting pushed out. Driving is better past that, and hard packed north of Packery]. |

| I agree with O.B. it was very nice down PINS, driving and water top notch! What a difference a day makes, glad I didn't go Saturday and slept in on Sunday. |

Just got back from PINS. Water was beautiful. I could clearly see my feet in 3 ft of water. It was a bit rougher than I would like for tops, but it was fishable. I ended up having problems with my topwater reel, but my buddy put two good trout in the cooler, and he also got an approx 25 lb jack crevalle. As mentioned above, dead sea grass and the "S" word stuff made fishing anything other than topwaters problematic, so I got skunked. The north wind and overcast made it very pleasant on the beach. Buddy took pity on me and gave me his fish, so all good. |

I went out to around the 25mm - and like ChapCat said, water was very nice, also just barely fishable for the weed. Caught whiting , small pomps on shrimp and fishbites in the first gut, weed was too bad to cast out farther. Got a few blow ups on top water - caught one skip jack, cut it up and threw it back out for bigger stuff, but just too much weed to leave it out there. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

Like a dumb donkey, I went down this morning at the high tide with the NNE winds. Got down to the the shack and then wondered if I'd have to get back in hours at lower tide. Storms made it even more fun. But even in the churn, the water still looked good. Weed was thick all the way. Didn't put up a lightning rod. But it was actually a nice drive. 4x4 through the high banks and around 7. Could be good this weekend. _________________ Fish ON! |

If my dash cam had continue working as I drove off pins last night, that would have been nat geo awesome. The lighting was incredible, close, loud, and wow. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

Went again last evening, tuesday the 11th, water clarity was down a bit from monday evening , went down south of the 20. Driving was good , sea weed was intermittent - it would drive you nuts and then disappear - and then come back again. My work around which I thought of monday night driving out - was to find some deep gut up close, not hard to guess where , and free bait, shrimp, mullet , whatever .
Being lazy I would much rather do it with artificial , <in> but I only get a few taps monday night. So anyway, i cheated, bought live shrimp - - and caught some small - but legal trout - between 15 and 17 inch fish, and then a few whiting , a golden croaker - and of course skip jacks. So now I know that the trout are in that hole - and holes like it - so I will go back with lures , and throw them until i find the one those picky &**&^* would like that evening. While I like support our bait stands by buying live bait, most of my fishing life was spent throwing lures, and I will get good at it again.
The surf was in the 2-3 foot - but smooth not very choppy - water clarity - 5 - 6 ish - and the turtles were out in number again. You cant help but smile as they poke their heads up - look around - see you - and then take off like a water bound road runner. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |
