Alright let me try this again.


Arrived on the island around 2 on Sunday afternoon with beautiful skies and a decent surf. The water wasn't quite chocolate milk, but definitely not the pretty trout green I was hoping for. Began catching small whiting. Noticed some mullet getting thrashed on top so switched over to a chrome/pink topwater with one unsuccessful blowup. The waves were huge so fishing was fairly difficult. Made the move over to the rocks by the harbor in Port A (my all time favorite spot to fish) and had a blast with the variety we caught. Nothing of great size but managed specks, sand trout, mangroves, croaker and even a small mutton snapper. So much color on those fish right now. Had some drinks and a fantastic dinner at Kody's and called it a night. Monday morning, got an early start before the front. I should've fished the surf, but decided to fish the rocks again with similar success. Around 9:30 or so we witnessed the craziest weather change I've ever experienced. Front blasted through and damn near froze our sweat beads (felt that way anyways). The rest of the trip was cold with off and on rain. The fishing never turned off by any means. Was able to manage a few good sized mangroves for dinner so cooked those at the hotel on Tuesday night and it was GOOOOD. On the way out of town, stopped to throw some gulps on the side of the highway in Aransas Pass. Managed 2 small flounder pretty much instantly and lost a good one. I couldn't spend much time in AP but have a feeling those flounder are STACKED holding to those drop-offs.

In all, was a very fun and relaxing trip. Looking back, I wish I would've changed tactics a bit more to target a few bigger fish. Guess I'll have to save that for next trip. Hopefully I'll be able to get down to kill some ducks. Saw plenty flying already.

...the water wasn't there. So we climbed down the jetty rocks and walked across the ship channel, sorta like Moses going across the Red Sea. All the while, I was picking up snagged lures and weights from the thousands of unlucky fisherman who discovered the dreaded 'Rockfish'. Once I filled my cooler with gear, we climbed back up the rocks, just in time for the water to return, and a tanker making it's way into port, with a pod of dolphins playing in the bow wake.
