There is a Coastal Flood Advisory
...Coastal Flood Advisory along Middle Texas Coast This Evening through Friday Morning...
Timing and Overview:
A Coastal Flood Advisory will go into effect for the Middle Texas coast from 10 PM CDT this evening through 7 AM CDT Friday. Persistent moderate to strong northeasterly flow across the gulf waters has contributed to elevated water levels. Tides are running about 1 foot above normal, and with the extra push from the northeasterly winds, is expected to allow tide levels to rise to 2.0 to 2.5 feet above Mean Sea Level during periods of high tide. This will result in minor coastal flooding along the gulf coast, the bays, and along the intracoastal waterways.
South Texas Impacts:
Coastal Flooding: Minor coastal flooding is expected, with maximum tides between 2.0 to 2.5 feet above mean sea level, especially around the time of high tide. Driving on the beach will be limited to impossible with wave run-up into the dunes.
Upcoming High Tides:
Bob Hall Pier: 1:22 AM Friday
Port Aransas: 1:46 AM Friday
Also in from Ranger Buzz on Padre Island National Seashore 10/18 4pm
Beach Conditions Update from PINS
The word from the park Facilities Management staff that cleared the beach today is that the bottom third of South Beach (i.e. south of the 40 mm) is a mess. They could not continue south due to a bad washout around the forty. Many regular visitors that have recently travel south may recall there was a narrow area there prior to Hurricane Michael. After the heavy storm surge it has gotten worse. In addition Jeff Wolda reports there is a large log blocking the beach around the 42 mm. Park employees were unable to reach it with the loader due to the washout that blocked their way south.
It wouldn't be Shark-A-Thon without crazy conditions so let the festivities begin!
