Just got out on the water and I was around Pita island and I get a phone call from one of my softball Buddies. Asked me if I'm fishing and I say it over by Pita and meanwhile we started breaking up so I just hang up started to drift and pick up three nice trout. Then I hear a motor coming up behind me and I look and it was my softball friend. He proceeded to pull up within 20 yards of me over the place I just drifted and then moved in front of about another 20 yards and shuts down and starts phishing. I felt like just doing donuts all around him but I figured the worst thing than one a_ hole is two a-holes. Not enjoying myself anymore I stopped at one place on my way in picked up a couple more trout that we have filled my limit had I been keeping any of them. Damn I am po' d! Sorry for the rant.

that's the kind of thing you have to chalk up to people are worth more than fish - even if they don't have a clue.
I'm guessing he thought you'd like seeing him.
There's always more fish.

Most humans are gregarious to a freaking fault, and head straight for the next human they see if they are alone, friend or not. Shocked I'm exactly the opposite of that......... Rolling Eyes

So much for sharing too much information with your buddies! Embarassed

Typical. Sometimes your "friends" are actually azzholes, and those you think are azzholes are much better friends than you know.

Not sure I agree with the "people are worth more that fish" these days.

good answer

the math is otherwise easy - lose a fish, or lose a friend - if you choose the former, you also get to recognize that you would have known better than to do what he did.
If you choose the latter, there aren't always more friends.
Actually, people will be worth more than fish for eternity.

Rare is the friend who would crowd you on a drift.

I would never lose a friend over fish. It was just that the time was so frustrating and I haven't faced with him enough to know that he just doesn't understand fishing / boating ticket. He is just one of those typical computer nerds. Smart as hell when it comes to computers but the common sense is not quite there

you can always invite him out on your boat, and talk about what you're doing and why - then he'll know better next time.

Reading water, though, can't always be taught. Mentioned before, I have friends been fishing all their lives without a clue - and enjoying it just as much as anybody.

But is that kind of person really a friend. I think not. I prefer the fish to that kind of "friend".

To me, picking someone you call a friend is kind of like picking someone you would want to share a fox hole with. Semper Fi!
Otherwise they are acquaintances.

the guy went out of his way to be friendly, and that's all he thought he was doing

you've done your part - all that's left is put the incident in its correct cubby hole.

When I ran a hill country fly fishing life group from my church, a guy called me all excited about the chance to join the group - I was guiding 4 to 14 people somewhere in the hill country every other week-
-did it for 6 years. 160 people asked to join my e-mail list.
But he had to bring his Labrador to the river, because he didn't go anywhere without his dog. I'm sorry, you can't bring your dog to the river, it's not fair to everyone else in the group trying to fish.
So I was a dog hater. Way cool.
