I have a Coleman xtreme marine that came with my current boat and it is the best ice chest I have, performs as well as my 2 Yeti's and is much lighter. I've priced them at WalMart and they're about 100 bucks, that's about the best value I've found.

Yup Coleman extremes! Replace hinges and good as yetis holding ice. Plus no one will steal them. Iv has one in my truck bed for years.

And you can get them with wheels so old farts like me don't have to lift them!

I have had so many coleman coolers (and other products) break in various ways that I cant stand the thought of buying another one. I have been reduced to being a buy once cry once type of cooler owner.

Never had a problem with my Coleman extremes. Fix a few small things occasionally, but that's about it.

This is the one I use. No hinges, etc... Just wheels and a pullup handle. The lid is pressure fit and lock in place when pulled down.

Had a huge failure this weekend. Took lots of frozen water bottles (16 oz kind) some milk jugs and blocks of ice. Went down about 12 miles and at 1pm the 16oz frozen bottles were all but thawed the milk jugs were ok but 1/2 the blocks were gone. Had to make and emergency run back out to get some ice.
I wont make that mistake again. I bought 80lbs at malaquite visitors center and it was still good on Sunday night into monday when we were able to empty everything out.
Milk jugs were still frozen too.

How is the telescoping handle constructed? I have an igloo one just like that and the handle has rusted open and will no longer go down which makes it a real pain to get into the car. It collapses into itself to sit below the cooler lid if it worked properly.

I have 2 with handles like that. I sprayed them really good with wd40 and let them sit a week and they started working again.
Now I just have to figure out some lube that will keep it that way.

the igloos seem to always stick for me when trying to retract. the colemans don't. the igloos use a little button on top that you push to retract squared pegs and half the time they don't retract. the coleman uses small chromed ball bearings that retract when you apply push down pressure. never had a problem with coleman retracting but the igloo is always a pia.

There are some new wd40 specialty lubes that might work. Look at their website. One of them is rated highest as a rust preventive and works really well.

1 coleman and 1 igloo. It wasnt a chest issue. The blocks worked ok but using 30+ frozen water bottles just didnt seem to work out. Most of them seem to have thawed by 1 PM. I went and bought regular ice and that solved it. I have had the chests for a long time but was just tired of paying $25 dollars for ice every time I go fishing for a couple of days.

BTW there is a video on youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vclUo238moM
that addresses the issue of draining or not draing water. I believe after 5 days with 2 chests ice and drinks the same, draining or not draining only lasted 2-3 hours longer. Not enough to matter. And for me the water keeps more things cooler.

...yeah and because you own a catering company, I have 10+ ice chests because you keep leaving them in my truck when we go fishing. Why couldn't you own a hedge fund or boat company and do the same thing? Alas, such is life.
