I went offshore with a group of guys from the 360tuna.com message board for a 12hr trip on the Pelican out of Deep Sea Headquarters and had a great time. The seas were flat and we were only rained on for probably 15 minutes the whole day. At our first stop I loaded up on vermillion snapper then switced to a jig and started nailing the amberjacks, almost all under size though. Most of the rest of the day we spent chasing shrimp boats catching mostly bonita while trying to catch blackfin. I ened up with 8 b liners a nice blackfin and a small amberjack. The capt. and crew did a great job putting us on fish. Here are some pics:

| Great report. The first picture leads one to think foul weather with ominous clouds and rain until you look at that flat sea. The splashing water and the guy sleeping on the deck makes for a really good picture. Doesn’t look like the same trip as all the other pictures. Thanks. |

I was using a dead sardine, hooked through the nose for the tuna and williamson and OTI jigs for the AJs. The OTI jigs worked awesome I was getting hooked up almost every drop for about 30 mins., they have them at roys or online (360tackle.com) and they are a heck of alot cheaper than the butterfly jigs.
Thanks for the compliments guys, heres what that tuna looked like around 30 mins. ago:

I was on that trip as well along with Rooster and the other guys. What a fun trip it was. It started off lousy with rain and not being able to catch bait but we stopped at a rock first that was covered up with some nice B-liners and AJs of all sizes. Some guys were jigging them up two at a time...
Though I don't think anyone weighed their fish I'm guessing several of the Blackfins pushed 25#, maybe more...We made it back with 22 though more were caught.
The Pelican and Captain John Brennan and his crew wwere great.
My own catch included ...
I know, I know ..... I need to change the date on my camera ... |
