Wondered when this would show up here, saw it on FB several days ago. The dude got slammed by a bunch of people but you can tell they worked their arses off trying to save that shark, it just didnt happen. Had it happen many times with various species from freshwater to saltwater, and yeah you feel bad. Congratulations Poco on your awesome catch and attempts to CPR her and dont worry about the critics, fine job.

It was actually covered on CNN and Fox too. I saw it earlier this week.

I don't do facebook but heard he and his wife were really getting slammed by a bunch of folks! Pathetic losers who dont have anything better to do!

Ray is a good guy and great fisherman! First winning sharkathon, then caught a 12 foot hammer a couple months ago, and now this! He is on a well deserved roll!

Amazing pic. The meat should be tested for mercury before consumption. I only eat small sharks that I assume are low in mercury content. I need to have one tested to make sure though.

Congratulations on a nice catch and kudos for best efforts on release. It looks like an old fish as well as a huge one. I admit to commenting on things I know nothing about but criticizing someone based on emotions and ignorance is just shallow.
Society has moved a long way from its connection with the natural world. I fear we will all be judged by an emotional and ignorant majority someday.

Helluva catch, and like everyone else has said, great job on the release efforts. I would also caution eating that meat though as it's likely high in dangerous mercury. The conservation effort is there and that's what counts!

I was thinking about the same thing and that it may have been a cookie cutter shark. Seriously.

Perhaps they tagged it then removed it after not surviving?

I think I heard where there is approximately 400 pounds of meat donated to local homeless shelters.
