so i saw a picture of someone on the beach today (Newport Pass area) the water seemed green all the way in. I went to the surf wednesday and it was dirty up close and i know about the coldwater upwelling, and ive seen the reports of green water in the 50s on PINS but it just seemed very green, was wondering of any one had been there today, maybe it was just an older picture. Thanks for the info Confused Confused

I was there on the third and had the same experience. My wife really wants to go today so I want to make sure its not a repeat.

When we left Pins 7mm Saturday it was beautiful. Calm surf perfect clear blue water lots of birds, DOLPHINS !@$#$!#%, whiting, shark, stingray and lots of dead crabs still coming in.

Water is clearing from south to north on PINS. Green water finally showed up on the north end yesterday. Still a little cool but there are fish to be caught! Jeff Wolda

Out the gazoo. I got to the sand about 530 pm, and fished between 3 miles down - on through to 24 miles down, stopped 6 times, the nasty sea snot was there everytime, the last stop , at 24 , it was down a bit. Each place I stopped except for the 3 miles down, was fishable. Throwing lures which i did at every stop was almost enjoyable - skipjacks only , though. Throwing fish bites out, i caught probably 8 whiting , good bait size, probably 6-8 inches, not keepers for the table though. I am probably going to pass on evening fishing - because my bet is I need to get down close to the cut to get away from this stuff.

And the first stop, it was a combination of fresh sargassum and sea snot - so for those who like that type of sea salad, it would have been a treat.

Water color was brown and muddy early on and somewhere around 15 or so - i think that was where it changed - but it was also getting near dusk and the light wasnt that good to see the water clarity.

At 24, the gut was of course, pretty deep and a shark came up - appeared to be chasing , probably skip jack, several things were jumping - one might have been mullet but several were skip jack.

Was at Bob Hall yesterday and the water was green up to the second gut for most of the day. Flat and calm. Only breakers were at the second and first bar.
